Quiz Whiz Troy Meyer: Tampa’s Champion Returns to 'Jeopardy!

Jeopardy website turns “matchmaker”

Tampa's very own Troy Meyer is gearing up for another shot at victory on the "Jeopardy!" Tournament of Champions, airing Wednesday.

The music executive, who previously dazzled audiences in January 2023 with a $214,802 win after a five-game streak, is set to challenge past champions Deb Bilodeau and Sean McShane.

Meyer, whose initial appearance was a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, also shares a unique connection with the show, having met his wife through a "Jeopardy!"-themed website. The couple's unusual love story even caught The New York Times' attention.

Fans can support Meyer as he brings his A-game back to the Alex Trebek Stage, continuing his journey on what he describes as "America's Favorite Quiz Show."

Tampa's Allure Turns Bittersweet: A Young Professional's Reflection

Cassie Leigh's dream move from Pittsburgh to Tampa turned sour as she faced the unforeseen challenges of overcrowding, escalating costs, and job market struggles. Initially enchanted by Tampa's warm climate, vibrant community, and proximity to beaches,

Cassie's perspective shifted dramatically with the city's rapid growth, exacerbated by an influx of new residents during the pandemic. The consequent overcrowding led to intense traffic and packed beaches, diminishing the city's appeal.

Moreover, the competitive job market in her field and the steep rise in living costs, including housing and insurance, compounded her disillusionment. Despite the initial allure, the reality of Tampa's transformed landscape has prompted Cassie to consider relocating, underscoring the complexity of finding an ideal living environment.

Gender Gap in Premiums: Florida Women Pay $200 More for Car Insurance

A recent study by LendingTree has spotlighted a significant gender-based disparity in car insurance costs within Florida, revealing that women in the state are charged nearly $200 more annually than men. This gap is notably the widest in the nation.

The data, focusing on individuals with clean records and standard insurance policies, indicates that Florida's women pay an average of $2,687, in contrast to $2,488 for men. While the national average shows women paying $32 more than men, the situation in Florida is far more pronounced.

Despite the controversial nature of gender-based pricing, which has led to its prohibition in eight states, Florida continues to allow this practice. Industry experts emphasize the importance of comparing insurance quotes, as rates can vary significantly among providers.

Kenosha's Latest Star: Kevin Bacon the Pig Lights Up Local Security Cam

In Kenosha County, Wisconsin, a 450-pound pig named Kevin Bacon became a local celebrity after wandering from his pen and showing up on the Molgaard family's home security camera.

The Molgaards were surprised to find the hefty visitor near their back door, indulging in a feast of apples, rice cakes, tomatoes, and carrots provided by the family.

The pig's escapade led to a community effort, involving the Molgaards, their friends, and local deputies, to safely return the amiable but wayward porker to his home. Despite the unexpected nature of the visit, Kevin Bacon charmed his temporary caretakers and even got a piggyback — quite literally — from their 16-year-old daughter to ensure his return to the pen.

This quirky incident not only brought smiles to the faces of the Kenosha County sheriff’s deputies but also added a sweet note to the Molgaards' routine, as they continued to visit Kevin with treats.

Sweat and Foundation: Uncovering the Skin's Response to Exercise With Makeup

A groundbreaking study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology has unveiled how wearing cosmetic foundation impacts skin during aerobic workouts.

Involving 43 college students, the research assessed skin changes by applying foundation on one side of the face, using the other side as a control.

Post-exercise findings showed an increase in skin moisture across the board, more so where makeup was applied, possibly due to its moisture-locking effect. Interestingly, skin elasticity improved overall, with a notable enhancement under the makeup. While pores enlarged on the makeup-free skin after exercising, those covered with makeup remained relatively unchanged, hinting at possible pore blockage. Moreover, oiliness rose in bare skin areas but dipped where makeup was present, raising concerns about disrupted skin oil balance during workouts.

The takeaway? For optimal skin health, it’s advisable to hit the gym makeup-free.
