Buzzing with Creativity: St. Pete Artist's Insect Art Highlights Bee Conservation

Insect Art Courtesy of ChatGPT!

In St. Petersburg, Florida, Gillian Probert is transforming her childhood fascination with insects into an artistic endeavor, particularly focusing on honey bees.

Probert collects deceased insects, particularly bees, and encases them in resin to create stunning, thought-provoking art installations. Her most notable work, "Swarm," comprises numerous bees preserved in crystal molds, symbolizing the alarming decline in bee populations.

This Eckerd College alumna emphasizes the importance of conservation, urging people to recognize the critical state of these essential pollinators.

Probert's unique art not only celebrates the beauty of nature but also serves as a poignant reminder of our environmental responsibilities.

Blustery Battles: USF Women's Sailing Faces Fierce Conditions at Prestigious Regatta

The Commander

The University of South Florida (USF) Women's Sailing Team faced challenging conditions at the Jen Harris Women's Team Race Regatta, securing tenth place amidst a field of 12.

Competing over two weekends, the team experienced harsh weather, including drenching rain and cold temperatures. Despite their efforts and victories against teams ranked higher, the adverse conditions on Sunday, with blustery winds reaching over 30 knots, led to the cancellation of the day's races. Consequently, only Saturday's results were counted.

The team looks forward to their next competition at the Sunshine City TR. The USF sailing program is renowned for its consistent national finals appearances and is led by distinguished coach Allison Jolly
