Now Casting: Tampa’s Latest Film & TV Roles Revealed

Hollywood dreams are alive and well in Tampa, where a fresh slate of films and series is now casting talent. According to a Backstage report, several local and national productions are seeking actors of all types and experience levels. Among the highlights is "Ongoing Docu-Drama," a scripted show filming in Tampa, and "Untitled High School Horror/Comedy," which calls for leads like “Goth Girl” and “Mandy.”
Other projects include the romantic short "Everlasting Love," the chilling "Have You Seen the Rat Man?" and the feature film "The Girl With No Talent." While some roles offer modest hourly pay—like $18 for shorts or $75 for a feature—others focus on exposure and creative collaboration. Casting is happening locally in Tampa, as well as in nearby Orlando and Lakeland, with a few roles open nationwide. For aspiring actors, the spotlight may be just a submission away.

Armature Works to Host Red Bull’s Electrifying Dance Event

Red Bull’s high-octane street dance competition, Dance Your Style, returns to Tampa this weekend—landing at Armature Works on Saturday, April 19. This stop on the 80-city tour brings 16 top dancers from across the South to battle it out for a chance at the national finals in San Francisco this summer.
Unlike traditional dance battles, there’s a twist: competitors don’t know what song they’ll get, forcing them to freestyle on the fly. The crowd, not a panel, decides who wins, making audience energy a key factor in each performance.
Previous Tampa qualifiers popped up at Sparkman Wharf and the Cuban Club, but this year’s showdown plants its feet in South Tampa Heights. Admission is free, though priority viewing tickets start at just $5. Whether you're a dance aficionado or just love a good show, expect high-energy, crowd-powered fun under the Florida sun.

“Recession Brunette”: The Hair Trend That Reflects the Economy

“Recession brunette” is more than just a hair trend—it’s an economic signal. As inflation pressures grow, many are opting for lower-maintenance, natural hair colors to cut costs. Stylists like Carmen DiCicco say high-maintenance styles—like icy blondes—are being replaced by richer brunettes and softer blends that require fewer salon visits.
While clients aren’t always upfront about their financial motivations, longer gaps between appointments and fewer premium services tell the story. Bethany Miller, for example, now visits her stylist less often, saving hundreds annually.
Experts explain that beauty choices often mirror economic moods, with consumers either pulling back or indulging in small luxuries. But unlike past downturns where affordable splurges saw a rise, today’s data shows a real pullback in beauty spending.
DiCicco advises clients to ask for low-maintenance cuts and color and use tone-preserving products to extend the time between salon visits—beauty on a budget.

Bill Gates: AI Will Soon Replace Teachers and Doctors

Bill Gates says AI is poised to transform two jobs long considered safe from automation: teaching and medicine. On the People by WTF podcast, Gates suggested that AI will help alleviate critical shortages in both fields by providing expert-level assistance and automating administrative tasks.
Healthcare startups like Suki and Tennr are already raising billions to tackle doctor burnout, with tools designed to improve diagnoses and streamline paperwork.
Gates also noted that AI's impact extends beyond white-collar jobs, predicting disruptions in manual labor roles like factory work and cleaning. In education, schools in the US and UK are turning to AI to address teacher shortages, with early pilots showing promise.
Ultimately, Gates envisions a future with shorter workweeks or early retirement, prompting a societal reevaluation of how we spend our time. “I choose to work,” he said. “Because it’s fun.”
