Macaulay Culkin to Celebrate Home Alone Anniversary Live in Tampa
Macaulay Culkin is coming to Tampa for a one-night-only celebration of the 35th anniversary of Home Alone at the Straz Center on December 4.
The event, titled “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin,” includes a special screening of the 1990 holiday classic followed by a live on-stage Q&A with Culkin. He’ll share behind-the-scenes stories, take audience questions, and reflect on the role that made him a global star.
Tickets go on sale August 22 at 12 p.m., but fans can get early access by donating $100+ to the Straz Center.
This festive evening follows last year’s sold-out event with Chevy Chase and is expected to draw a similarly large crowd.
Set against Tampa’s December holiday backdrop, the event is poised to become a new tradition — complete with likely shout-outs of “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!”
Underwear, Lipstick, and the Economy: UTampa Professor Breaks It Down
Economic trends can sometimes be spotted in the most unexpected places, according to Dr. Abby Hall, associate professor of economics at the University of Tampa.
She points to unusual indicators like men’s underwear sales as subtle signs of economic health. In tough times, men often skip replenishing basics like underwear — a small but telling sacrifice when budgets tighten.
Similarly, lipstick sales tend to rise during downturns, a phenomenon known as the “lipstick effect.” While people may avoid large expenses like vacations, they still seek affordable ways to feel good — like a $20 lipstick.
Even first-date frequency increases during recessions. Though seemingly contradictory, Hall explains it as a low-cost social “splurge” that brings emotional reward without financial strain.
By watching consumer behavior, Dr. Hall says we gain a clearer picture of economic sentiment — and how macroeconomics shows up in daily life.

Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar in Disney Springs is embracing spooky season for the first time, transforming into the Halloween Hangar Bar now through November 4.
According to the official Disney Parks Blog, guests will be greeted by Halloween-themed decor including pumpkin scarecrows, glowing Jack-O’-lanterns, and vintage black cat decorations styled after classic Beistle designs.
The seasonal menu includes nine limited-time food and drink items, such as:
Alien Invader Sliders
Phantom Dumplings
The Spike Trap
Cauldron Cooler
This marks the bar’s first Halloween transformation, though it has previously adopted a festive winter look as the Holiday Hangar Bar.
The location, inspired by Jock Lindsey, Indiana Jones’ daring pilot, adds an adventurous, retro twist to the Halloween vibes—perfect for families and Disney fans alike.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Celebrate 50 Years with All-Time Top 50 Team
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are marking 50 seasons of football by unveiling their Top 50 All-Time Players, honoring legends from decades of highs and lows.
The Bucs, once infamous for their early struggles — including a 26-game losing streak — have since secured two Super Bowl victories, led by stars like Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, and more recently, Tom Brady.
Brady’s placement on the list stirred debate, given his short tenure in Tampa versus his long legacy in New England. Still, his leadership in the 2021 Super Bowl victory secured his place in Bucs lore.
Hall of Famers like Lee Roy Selmon and Brooks are considered top contenders for the No. 1 spot.
The list rollout began August 19, and longtime beat writers — including one who covered the team during its darkest days — were invited to cast ballots, adding depth and nostalgia to the celebration.
