Haunts & Howls: Tampa Bay’s Ultimate
Halloween Guide

Tampa Bay is bursting with haunted happenings this Halloween season — from fright fests to family fun.

Busch Gardens' Sweetacular welcomes little witches with Kandy’s Parade and spooky science. ZooTampa’s Creatures of the Night offers ghoulish rides, dancing skeletons, and vampire balls. For adults, there's MOSI’s Ghoulish Gala, The Haunted Pearl Pirate Party, and the SpookEasy Lounge in Ybor.

Dinosaur World brings the fear with a brand-new haunted house, while Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail in Plant City delivers scream-worthy scares with three haunted trails. Prefer your thrills at sea? UnDead in the Water turns a WWII ship into a floating fortress of fear.

From blacklight paint parties and ghost tours to rocky horror screenings and pirate cruises, Tampa Bay has something for everyone — including four-legged friends at Sparkman Wharf’s HoWL-O-Ween.

Whether you’re hunting ghosts, candy, or cocktails, this Halloween season is Tampa's most wickedly fun yet.

Why Early Breakfasts Could Add Years to Your Life

A new study reveals that older adults who eat breakfast earlier in the day may live longer.

Researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School tracked nearly 3,000 adults over 30 years, uncovering that later breakfasts were associated with a higher risk of death.

As people age, factors like depression, fatigue, poor sleep, or dental issues may delay meals. The study found that every 10 years of aging led to an 8-minute delay in breakfast time. Over 22 years of follow-up, early eaters had a 10-year survival rate of 89.5%, compared to 86.7% for later eaters.

Researchers suggest meal timing may serve as a health marker and a tool for promoting longevity. The findings also tie into the rising interest in chrononutrition, which explores how meal timing impacts health.

“These results add new meaning to ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day,’” said lead author Dr. Hassan Dashti.

Toe Nash: The Lost Legend of the Devil Rays

Gregory “Toe” Nash, a once-in-a-generation talent from the sugarcane fields of Louisiana, has died at age 43. Discovered at 18 by Rays scout Benny Latino, Nash was a switch-hitting powerhouse with a 94-mph fastball, likened to “The Natural.”

He signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2000, joining future stars Josh Hamilton and Carl Crawford. Media buzz followed, with Nash hailed as the next Babe Ruth — even drawing interest from Oprah and Hollywood.

But Nash’s career unraveled amid legal troubles, including multiple arrests and a prison sentence. By 2002, he was released and faded from the game.

Despite a troubled path, his obituary remembered him as a vibrant, loving figure who cherished family, fishing, and friendly competition.

What could have been is still pondered today. “It would have been fun to see,” said former Rays exec Dan Jennings.

Toe Nash remains one of baseball’s most unforgettable “what ifs.”

Stroud vs. Tampa, Round Two: Can the Bucs
Avenge 2023?

When the Texans last faced the Buccaneers in 2023, CJ Stroud didn’t just win — he made NFL history.

The then-rookie QB threw for 470 yards and five touchdowns, including a game-winning TD to Tank Dell with six seconds left, in a thrilling 39-37 comeback. The performance shattered rookie records and announced Stroud as a rising star.

Tampa Bay hasn’t forgotten. Mike Evans called it one of the worst losses of his career, especially painful as it happened in front of family in Houston.

As the teams prepare to meet again this Monday night, Baker Mayfield acknowledged the challenges of facing DeMeco Ryans’ relentless defense, while Todd Bowles praised Stroud’s arm strength, quick release, and a receiving corps led by Nico Collins.

Though Houston’s offense has cooled recently, Collins says he’s ready for the spotlight:
“Continue to have fun. The ball is gonna come.”
