Tampa Bay Tops U.S. List for Worst Inflation Impact

Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater has been hit hardest by rising inflation, according to a new WalletHub study comparing changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) across 23 major metro areas.

As of August 2025, the Tampa metro area saw a 3.30% year-over-year CPI increase—the highest in the nation—while the two-month comparison showed a 1.10% rise.

WalletHub attributes Tampa’s elevated inflation to ongoing global conflicts, labor shortages, and recent tariffs. Nationally, inflation remains above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target, sitting at 2.9%.

The report follows earlier data from USF, which noted that inflation has made it increasingly difficult for Floridians to afford essentials like groceries and gas.

Other metro areas near the top of the inflation list include San Diego, Philadelphia, and Anchorage, while cities like Dallas, Houston, and Honolulu reported the least inflation impact.

Tampa’s top rank underscores how quickly living costs are rising, despite a cooling national trend.

Trippy Kitchen’s Tampa Debut Spices Up
Brewery Bash

Tampa Bay is bursting with haunted happenings this Halloween season — from fright fests to family fun.

Ology Brewing’s Tampa taproom turns three this weekend, and it's marking the occasion with a flavorful first: the Tampa debut of Trippy Kitchen, the culinary project from Miami’s Tripping Animals Brewing Co.

On Saturday, September 20 from 12–6 p.m., the Seminole Heights brewery hosts a pop-up featuring Trippy Kitchen’s bold Latin-American fusion menu, which includes:

  • Tequeños (Venezuelan cheese sticks) – $10

  • Brisket croquettes – $12

  • Croaker ceviche (corvina) – $18

There’s no cover charge, but attendees are encouraged to come hungry (and with wallets ready) to support the food and beer vendors.

The event reflects a growing trend: breweries are becoming more than beer spots—they’re community hubs hosting everything from trivia to concerts and even culinary experiences.

Location: Ology Brewing, 6401 N Florida Ave., Tampa.

This anniversary bash offers locals a perfect pairing of great beer, vibrant bites, and chill vibes to celebrate one of Tampa’s most community-minded taprooms.

Saving Solo Doctors: Marketing Firm Tackles
Private Practice Crisis

Since 2019, nearly 80,000 doctors have left private practice, driven by financial strain, administrative load, and the growing pressure to maintain a robust online presence. In response, GrassRoots Medical Marketing, a new Tampa-based agency, is stepping in to help physicians stay independent and digitally visible.

Founder Laura Woodard emphasizes that most doctors didn’t enter medicine to become marketers. Yet today, a practice’s online visibility—via websites, reviews, and social media—is crucial to reaching patients.

GrassRoots offers tailored solutions including website redesign, SEO, content creation, and social media management. Their G.R.A.S.S.™ Five-Step Formula simplifies the marketing process so doctors can return focus to patient care.

We’re here to restore the connection between doctors and patients in a digital-first world,” Woodard said.

Marketing Director Alicia Boyd adds, “It’s not just about visibility—it’s about ensuring patients can actually find the care they need.

Memory Loss? New Digital Test May Reveal
If It’s Alzheimer’s

Researchers at Lund University have developed a digital cognitive test, “BioCog,” to help primary care physicians detect Alzheimer’s disease early and efficiently.

The test is self-administered on a tablet and measures key cognitive areas like memory, attention, and orientation. Designed for use in everyday health clinics, BioCog acts as an early screening tool—identifying patients with cognitive impairment who may then require blood tests for Alzheimer’s-specific biomarkers like phosphorylated tau.

Traditional pen-and-paper methods fall short in speed and precision. BioCog, however, records new data points—like response time and tapping speed—that provide a deeper, more objective picture of cognitive health.

Primary care lacks the time and tools for in-depth memory diagnostics. BioCog fills that gap,” says neurologist Prof. Oskar Hansson.

Importantly, this is the first digital cognitive test validated on real-world primary care patients, ensuring practicality for clinics under time pressure.

As Alzheimer’s treatments improve, accurate early diagnosis becomes critical. BioCog may be the breakthrough primary care needs.
