Issue #513: SPECIAL EDITION
12/3/2025

Keep your finger on the Pulse!
GOOD MORNING
I’m sure you all have wondered what happened to me over these past few weeks.
In short, I got bitten by our “friendly” house cat in a moment of insanity over a ferral cat we were trying to save from the wild. I never knew that cats could turn so quickly into absolutely insane, unrecognizable predators, but she was completely unwilling to have another cat in our household and let me know it.
Result: 5 days in the hospital to treat what turned into bacterial sepsis, quickly spreading from my dominant hand up to the top of my arm.
The pathogen was Pasteurella which is a bacteria that both cats and dogs carry in their saliva and the complicating factor was the fact that I take a monthly infusion of a potent anti-inflammatory to control something I had only read about in residency - but got - called temporal arteritis. The downside of this miracle infusion is that it lowers my immunity which allowed the infection to start and spread quickly like a California wildfire.
The only reason I go into this detail is that animal bites such as these are not to be “messed” with. While I should probably have gone to the emergency room that evening of the bite, I cleaned it, stopped the bleeding, then postponed the ER visit until the morning - wrong choice.
It took almost the whole week following my discharge to get full function of my wrist and hand back so I could use them without pain.
I’m fine now and ready to get back to work but am now way behind where I needed to be work-wise due to this unplanned “vacation”.
Going forward, I need to make some minor changes. This newsletter is a pleasure to bring to you but it does take more time & money than I can now afford. To regain time I need for other work endeavors, I will be publishing only 4 days/wk: Tuesday thru Friday. Mondays have always been the hardest issue to find good stories from over the weekend anyway, and since many holidays do also come on Mondays I’m going to start enjoying those holidays just a bit more now.
I’m considering adding a weekly paid edition to come out on Mondays that will bring more in-depth information about our New Tampa | Wesley Chapel area than I have been able to provide previously. Very little from our communities gets into the standard area newsfeeds I use, but I think I’ve found a great alternate source for good local information you will enjoy.
While this original (almost) daily newsletter I will continue to provide at no charge, I need the funds from the upgraded weekly edition to cover the costs of the newsletter production which I have been covering personally up to this point.
While I’m not sure when I will be able to start this upgrade edition, I am looking forward to getting it out to supplement what I’ve been able provide you up ‘till now.
For those of you in Hunters Green who had been asking about my absence and wished me a speedy recovery, I did appreciate your well-wishes, and thank you.
The Holiday season has rapidly descended upon us. Let’s make the most of it before we start a much better year with 2026!
