New Stadium Deal in Sight? HCC Board Vote Set
for Jan. 20

A potential home for the Tampa Bay Rays' future stadium may be decided as early as Jan. 20, as the Hillsborough Community College Board of Trustees plans a vote on a deal involving its Dale Mabry campus.

The proposal would convert 110 acres into a mixed-use district with a new ballpark at its center. This aligns with the team’s requirement for 100+ acres, outlined by new lead owner Patrick Zalupski, who has set an ambitious 2029 stadium opening goal.

Sources report Rays representatives recently met with county staff, though no public financing plan has been confirmed. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor is reportedly not yet involved.

While a vote could cement the Rays’ preferred site, questions remain around how the stadium and district would be funded, especially in Florida’s tax-averse political climate.

Stay tuned — the outcome could shape the Rays’ future for decades.
