Officials Warn of Fines as New Water Rules Take Effect in April

Tampa Bay residents will soon face strict new water restrictions as officials respond to worsening drought conditions across the region.
The Southwest Florida Water Management District has issued a Modified Phase III “Extreme” Water Shortage order, limiting lawn watering to just one day per week beginning April 3.
New time restrictions are also in place, allowing watering only between 12:01 a.m.–4 a.m. or 8 p.m.–midnight. The rules apply to all residents, including those using private wells.
Additional measures include restricted car washing, limited fountain use, and restaurants serving water only upon request. Violations could result in fines after a short grace period.
Officials cite significantly below-average rainfall and declining water levels in lakes and aquifers as the driving factors behind the decision.
The restrictions are expected to last through July 1 but could be extended if conditions do not improve.

Scam Alert: Fraudulent Traffic Violation Notices Circulating in Florida

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is warning residents about a new scam involving counterfeit court notices falsely claiming unpaid traffic or toll violations.
Officials say these fraudulent documents closely mimic legitimate government correspondence, often including fake case numbers, references to Florida statutes, and threats such as license suspension or registration holds. Some notices even feature QR codes directing victims to unauthorized payment sites or demand immediate action with fabricated hearing dates.
Authorities emphasize these notices are not issued by any Florida court or state agency. Legitimate agencies do not request payments through QR codes, unsolicited links, or unverified platforms.
Motorists are urged to remain cautious: do not click suspicious links, avoid sharing personal or financial information, and report scams to the Federal Trade Commission and local law enforcement.
Reminder: FLHSMV will never contact individuals via text demanding payment or threatening arrest.

Rays Name Carson Williams Starting Shortstop Ahead of Opening Day

The Tampa Bay Rays finalized their Opening Day roster with a mix of expected promotions and unexpected injury moves ahead of the 2026 season.
Top prospect Carson Williams has been named the starting shortstop, stepping in after Taylor Walls suffered a right oblique strain. Manager Kevin Cash cited Williams’ strong spring performance and development on both offense and defense as key factors.
In a surprise move, pitcher Ryan Pepiot was placed on the injured list with right hip inflammation. The team expects his absence to be brief, opting for caution rather than risk further injury early in the season.
Joe Boyle will now join the starting rotation, with adjustments also giving Nick Martinez extra recovery time for a minor hamstring issue.
The Rays also finalized bullpen roles and added depth pieces, positioning the team for a competitive and flexible start to the season.
