Local Roots, National Attention: Zheng Siblings
Tied to MacDill Plot

New details in the MacDill Air Force Base bomb investigation reveal strong ties between the suspects and the North Tampa area, drawing heightened local interest.
Alen Zheng, 20, graduated from Land O’ Lakes High School in 2024, where former staff described him as quiet and academically capable. His sister, Ann Mary Zheng, 27, graduated from Gulf High School in New Port Richey, further connecting the family to Pasco County communities.
Authorities say the siblings had no prior criminal history, and neighbors in Land O’ Lakes and New Port Richey described them as respectful landlords managing several rental homes. Alen briefly attended the University of South Florida before withdrawing shortly after the alleged incident.
The family also operated a restaurant on Busch Boulevard near Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, reinforcing their ties to North Tampa.
No motive has been identified, leaving residents questioning how familiar local figures became linked to a federal investigation.
$15M ER Opens in Lutz to Meet Pasco Growth Surge

A new $15 million freestanding emergency room has opened at State Road 54 and Sunlake Boulevard, expanding access to care in one of Florida’s fastest-growing regions.
HCA Florida Sunlake Emergency, an 11,000-square-foot facility, began serving patients March 25 with 24/7 emergency care, private exam rooms, and a fully equipped trauma bay. The site also includes on-site lab testing, X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasound services.
Operated under HCA Florida Trinity Hospital, the center allows patients requiring hospitalization to be transferred within the HCA network at no cost.
The project reflects rapid population growth in Pasco County, which is expected to add more than 200,000 residents by 2045. Trinity Hospital alone handled over 74,000 emergency visits last year.
This is one of three planned freestanding ERs by HCA’s West Florida Division, part of a broader $70 million investment to meet rising healthcare demand.

Bag Fee Argument Escalates Into Airport Arrests

Kids: This is what happens when adults don’t respect authority.
Three women were arrested at Miami International Airport after a dispute over a carry-on bag fee escalated into a confrontation that delayed a Frontier Airlines flight by about an hour.
Nafisa Dockery, 30, Dionjana Cochran, 21, and Davana Cochran, 26, were charged with trespassing and resisting an officer without violence. Dockery also faces an additional battery charge.
Authorities say the incident began when airline staff requested payment for an extra carry-on bag. The women allegedly refused and boarded through a restricted area despite warnings their passes could be revoked.
Deputies cleared the aircraft before attempting removal. Officials say the women resisted commands, leading to a struggle, and Dockery allegedly spat on another person.
Bond was set at $4,000 for Dockery and Dionjana Cochran, and $2,000 for Davana Cochran. All three were taken into custody following the incident..

HCSO Opens New K-9 Training Complex in Tampa

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has opened a new state-of-the-art K-9 training complex, marking a significant investment in law enforcement readiness and public safety.
The 11,000-square-foot facility is designed to support both training and care for K-9 units, featuring classrooms, scent rooms, secure training aid areas, and office space.
The kennel includes 24 climate-controlled indoor and outdoor runs, with the capacity to house up to 48 canines during emergency situations. Advanced drainage, ventilation, and sanitation systems are also built in to meet specialized care standards.
Officials say the complex will be used not only by HCSO but also by local and national agencies for joint training opportunities.
Sheriff Chad Chronister emphasized the importance of preparation, noting the facility ensures K-9 teams are equipped to handle real-world challenges and continue protecting the community effectively.
