Inside Pasco’s New Push to Get Students Back
in Class

A newly identified COVID-19 variant, BA.3.2—nicknamed “Cicada”—has been detected in at least 25 states, including Florida, according to the CDC. Health experts say the variant earned its nickname due to its re-emergence after previously circulating in 2024.
Medical professionals emphasize that symptoms remain consistent with existing COVID-19 strains, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, and sore throat. However, researchers are closely monitoring the variant due to its significant mutations, particularly in the virus’s outer structure.
Dr. Steven Goldberg of HealthTrackRx noted that while these mutations raise concerns, it is still too early to determine whether they will impact severity or transmission, with clearer data expected by early summer.
Preliminary findings suggest current vaccines may be less effective against BA.3.2, though they are still expected to provide some level of protection. Health officials continue to recommend vigilance as more data becomes available in the coming months.

Ironworker’s Sky-High View Captivates Tampa Bay

Rebuilding an Icon After the Storm
When Tropicana Field lost its roof during Hurricane Milton in 2024, restoring it became a massive undertaking requiring skilled crews from across the country.
A High-Stakes, Hands-On Job
Ironworker Christopher Torres, traveling from Oklahoma, helped lead the effort. Working nearly 250 feet above the field, crews relied on manual strength and precision—using gloves and straps rather than heavy machinery—to stretch and secure the massive roof fabric. “The ground kind of blurs out,” Torres said, describing the intense focus needed at such heights.
Viral Views from Above
Torres shared his experience on social media, offering rare aerial views of St. Petersburg. His videos quickly gained traction, drawing support and appreciation from local residents.
A Lasting Connection
With the stadium reopened, Torres returned home—but says the sunsets, scenery, and community pride left a lasting impression.

Joey Chestnut Devours Buccaneers in Cake Showdown

Chestnut Dominates in Unusual Showdown
Competitive eating legend Joey Chestnut delivered another astonishing performance Saturday at Raymond James Stadium, taking on four members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a cake-eating contest.
Record-Breaking Performance
Chestnut consumed an incredible 10.5 slices of chocolate cake in just five minutes, surpassing the combined total of 9.5 slices eaten by the Buccaneers’ offensive linemen. The feat set a new world record for chocolate cake eating.
Not Just Another Win
Known for his dominance at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, Chestnut once again proved his versatility by excelling in a completely different food category. His ability to maintain speed and endurance with such a rich dessert left spectators stunned.
Looking Ahead
With another record under his belt, Chestnut now turns attention toward defending his title at the upcoming Nathan’s competition.

Caminero’s Clever “Catch” Attempt Sparks Laughs
(Checkout video of play at link below)
Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero delivered both effort and entertainment during Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
All-Out Effort Falls Just Short
In the sixth inning, Caminero sprinted toward the left-field line chasing a foul ball hit by Josh Bell. He dove near the tarp, extending his glove in a highlight-worthy attempt, but the ball appeared to land just beyond his reach. The third-base umpire immediately ruled it safe.
A Playful Attempt to Sell the Catch
Not giving up, Caminero retrieved the ball from behind the tarp and held it up as if he had secured the catch. The clever, split-second deception drew attention but failed to sway the umpire.
Memorable Moment Regardless
While it won’t count as a catch, Caminero’s mix of hustle and humor created a memorable moment fans won’t soon forget.
