New Tampa’s Arthi Gouravelli Rises to Top of 600,000 Cadets

New Tampa resident Arthi Gouravelli, a junior at Middleton High School, has been named the national recipient of the prestigious National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution JROTC Award, placing her among the top JROTC cadets in the world.
The honor ranks Gouravelli above more than 600,000 JROTC students participating in approximately 3,400 programs worldwide across all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. She also received a $6,000 national award scholarship.
Gouravelli serves as Mission Support Squadron Commander in Middleton’s Air Force JROTC program and has helped lead the school’s nationally competitive Joint Leadership and Academic Bowl team. Beyond JROTC, she participates in FBLA and HOSA, leads Middleton’s Indian fusion dance team and has completed more than 300 volunteer hours with organizations including Feeding Tampa Bay and Books for Africa.
The biomedical magnet student says JROTC helped shape her leadership, discipline and commitment to service after joining the program as a freshman almost on a whim.

Tampa Bay Filipino Community Mobilizes After Deadly Philippines Earthquake

Members of Tampa Bay’s Filipino community are beginning to organize relief efforts after a powerful earthquake in the Philippines killed dozens of people and displaced more than 30,000 residents.
The Philippine Cultural Foundation says it is exploring ways to support victims as recovery efforts continue overseas. Founder Jose Omila said the disaster has deeply affected many local Filipinos with family and friends still living in the region.
Peachy Tucker, who grew up on the island of Mindanao near the quake zone, said hearing firsthand accounts from relatives was frightening. Family members described intense shaking, swaying buildings and widespread fear as the earthquake struck during daytime hours when schools and workplaces were full.
While Tucker said her loved ones are safe, some friends have reportedly been forced to stay in tents because of damaged homes and unsafe conditions.
Community leaders say discussions about possible fundraising and relief efforts are still in the early planning stages.

Wingsnob Bringing New Chicken Wing Spot to Wesley Chapel

A new chicken wing destination is headed to Wesley Chapel as fast-growing franchise Wingsnob prepares to open a location at 30203 Wesley Chapel Blvd. before the end of the year.
Franchisee AJ Joshi confirmed the new restaurant will bring the brand’s popular menu of bone-in and boneless wings, loaded fries, chicken tenders, sandwiches and group-sized fan packs to the area. Wingsnob is also known for its mini sandwiches and variety of wing sauces and flavors.
The expansion adds another fast-casual dining option to the rapidly growing Wesley Chapel corridor, which continues attracting new restaurants and retail development.
Wingsnob has already expanded across several Florida markets, including a recently opened Riverview location operated by Joshi. The company continues growing its footprint as demand for specialty chicken and quick-service concepts remains strong throughout the Tampa Bay region.

Tampa Sports Future Hinges on Billion-Dollar Stadium Debate

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are exploring a potential $1 billion renovation of Raymond James Stadium that could significantly reshape the fan experience and surrounding area. Proposed upgrades include a massive shade canopy, expanded premium seating, infrastructure improvements, and a new entertainment district near the stadium.
City officials say about $60 million has already been allocated for the first phase of modernization focused mainly on internal upgrades. The discussions come as the Buccaneers approach a January 2027 deadline to decide whether to extend their current stadium lease.
Sports business experts note Raymond James Stadium is now one of the older venues in the NFL and faces pressure to keep pace with newer stadiums offering luxury amenities and year-round entertainment options.
The debate is unfolding alongside separate discussions involving the Tampa Bay Rays and a proposed $2.3 billion Tampa ballpark project, with questions remaining about potential public funding for both developments.
