Father’s Day Specials and Family-Friendly Events Fill Tampa This Weekend

Tampa Bay residents have plenty of options for a fun-filled weekend, with events ranging from science-themed entertainment to Father’s Day celebrations across the region.
At MOSI near USF, Science After Dark returns Friday with hands-on experiments, interactive exhibits, and liquid nitrogen ice cream. The adults-only event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Dog lovers can head to Ybor City on Saturday for the DogFathers Family BBQ at Bay Paws Pet Resort. The free event features a dog swimming pool, giveaways, and complimentary beer for guests.
For Father’s Day, Pirate Water Taxi is offering dads a free cruise when accompanied by a paid ticket. The promotion includes unlimited hop-on, hop-off rides throughout downtown Tampa.
Families can also visit 1983 Tampa, where a classic car show, whiskey tastings, and special Father’s Day dining options will be available.
Several Tampa Bay restaurants are also offering Father’s Day specials and discounts throughout the weekend.
Florida E-Bike Crackdown Would Limit Speeds Near Pedestrians Statewide

Florida lawmakers have approved a transportation bill that would impose new restrictions on e-bike riders as concerns grow over serious injuries and pedestrian safety.
If signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, Senate Bill 382 would take effect on July 1, limiting e-bikes to 10 mph on sidewalks and shared-use paths whenever pedestrians are within 50 feet. Riders would also be required to provide an audible warning before passing pedestrians. Violations could result in fines of up to $30.
The legislation comes as hospitals report a rise in severe e-bike injuries. Doctors at Tampa General Hospital’s Muma Children’s Hospital say they treat e-bike-related injuries weekly, with children experiencing significantly higher rates of traumatic brain injuries and facial fractures compared to traditional bicycle riders.
The bill also requires law enforcement agencies statewide to collect standardized crash data, including rider age, e-bike type, and licensing information, while establishing a task force to recommend future safety improvements.

Where to Play Pickleball in Tampa Bay: Top Free and Low-Cost Courts

Major League Pickleball is bringing national attention to St. Petersburg this week, and the tournament may inspire more Tampa Bay residents to give the fast-growing sport a try.
For players seeking affordable places to play, several public facilities offer free or low-cost access throughout the region. In Hillsborough County, Cuscaden Park features six courts, while Rowlett Park offers eight lighted courts, restrooms, and water fountains. The David M. Barksdale Center also provides free beginner lessons on Mondays.
Pinellas County players often head to Crescent Lake Park in St. Petersburg, known for competitive open play and skill-based court groupings. Other popular options include Fossil Park, J.W. Cate Recreation Center, Walter Fuller Park, and Coquina Key.
In Manatee County, G.T. Bray Park in Bradenton remains a favorite among local players and professionals alike.
Apps such as ParkView, TeamReach, and DUPR can help players find courts, connect with groups, and track their progress.

Buccaneers Embrace Tougher Identity After NFL Flags Practice Intensity

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are embracing a more physical identity heading into the 2026 season, even after the NFL penalized the team for conducting offseason practices deemed too intense for this time of year.
After a disappointing finish in 2025, the Buccaneers made a conscious effort to add players known for their toughness and competitive edge. New additions such as A’Shawn Robinson, Alex Anzalone, Rueben Bain Jr., and Josiah Trotter have helped establish a culture centered on disciplined aggression and accountability.
The NFL recently docked Tampa Bay an OTA practice after determining prior sessions were overly physical. Rather than viewing the punishment negatively, players have embraced it as evidence of the competitive standard being set throughout the organization.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield and rookie defensive back Jacob Parrish both praised the energy and intensity displayed during offseason workouts.
The challenge now is maintaining that edge without crossing the line, a balance the Buccaneers believe can fuel a strong rebound in 2026.
