Wild Hogs Leave Costly Trail of Damage Across Wesley Chapel Neighborhoods

Residents in several Wesley Chapel neighborhoods are dealing with an unexpected overnight nuisance as wild hogs continue tearing up lawns in search of food. Communities including Estancia at Wiregrass, Meadow Pointe, the Arbors, and other Wiregrass-area neighborhoods have reported extensive landscaping damage caused by the animals.
The hogs typically arrive under the cover of darkness, rooting through grass for worms, grubs and other insects. In just a few minutes, they can leave behind deeply torn lawns and thousands of dollars in repair costs before homeowners even realize they've visited.
To combat the growing problem, some communities have hired professional wildlife trappers to safely remove the hogs, although the process can take weeks or even months. Meanwhile, some residents are using non-lethal deterrent devices in hopes of discouraging the animals until trapping efforts reduce the local population.

Florida Ranks Among Nation's Highest States for Online Privacy Risk
Florida ranks among the nation's most vulnerable states for online privacy risks, according to a new analysis of publicly available cybersecurity data. The report placed the Sunshine State fifth nationwide, citing a combination of internet crime complaints, financial losses, online safety awareness, and digital literacy.
Researchers found Florida recorded 306 internet crime complaints per 100,000 residents, with reported losses totaling approximately $6.8 million over the past year. While the state did not rank worst in any single category, it scored consistently across all four measures, resulting in an elevated overall risk.
The report, produced by proxy service provider Floxy, emphasizes that the findings are an analysis of existing data rather than a scientific study. The five states identified as having the highest digital privacy risk were Nevada, California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida, underscoring the growing importance of online security awareness for residents.

Florida Poly Graduates Earn Highest Salaries Among State Universities

Florida Polytechnic University graduates earn the highest salaries among alumni from Florida's public universities five years after graduation, according to newly released state data. An analysis by the Tampa Bay Business Journal found Florida Poly alumni earn an average of $93,600 annually, topping every institution in the State University System.
The figure is 33% higher than Florida's statewide average of $70,400, with the University of Florida ($78,600) and Florida State University ($72,800) ranking second and third.
University leaders credit the results to Florida Poly's STEM-focused curriculum, required internships, and industry-sponsored capstone projects that give students practical experience before graduation.
The Lakeland university, Florida's only public institution dedicated exclusively to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, says its graduates continue to excel in high-demand fields including engineering, cybersecurity, computer science and data science, reinforcing the school's reputation for strong career outcomes and return on investment.

From Rays Fan to Royals First Baseman: Jac Caglianone Comes Full Circle

Tampa native and Plant High School graduate Jac Caglianone returned to Tropicana Field this week as a Major Leaguer, fulfilling a dream that began years ago as a young Rays fan. Now the Kansas City Royals' first baseman, Caglianone is playing his first big-league games at the stadium where he once cheered from the stands.
The homecoming is especially meaningful because friends, family and his 97-year-old grandfather are watching him play in the majors for the first time. Caglianone credits his grandfather with supporting him throughout his baseball journey.
Growing up, he attended countless Rays games, watching stars like David Price, Matt Garza and Evan Longoria, while imagining one day taking the field himself.
Now living that dream, Caglianone hasn't forgotten what it was like to be a young fan. He says he'll gladly stop to sign autographs for children, hoping to inspire the next generation of hometown ballplayers.
