Nearly 100 New Cyclospora Cases Reported in Florida in One Week
Florida health officials have reported nearly 100 new cyclospora cases in just one week, bringing the state's total to 342 confirmed infections since early May. The increase comes as Sysco, the nation's largest food distributor, has stopped purchasing iceberg lettuce from Mexico and Taylor Farms, whose shredded lettuce has been linked to a widening cyclospora outbreak.
Nationally, the CDC has confirmed more than 10,400 cases, 517 hospitalizations, and two deaths, although the fatalities have not been directly tied to the recalled lettuce. In Florida, Miami-Dade, Broward, and Lee counties have reported the highest case totals.
At the same time, health officials are investigating a separate salmonella outbreak potentially linked to jalapeños supplied to Chipotle and other food-service businesses. Officials advise consumers to practice good food safety and seek medical care if they experience persistent symptoms of foodborne illness.

A Bay Area radio host is urging parents to make helmets non-negotiable after a devastating e-bike crash left her with a broken jaw in three places, a fractured ear canal, a broken shoulder, and a week-long hospital stay.
