New Tampa’s Indian Food Scene Explodes to 11 Restaurants

New Tampa’s dining landscape has undergone a remarkable transformation, becoming a destination for Indian and South Asian cuisine. The community now has 11 Indian restaurants, compared with none when Neighborhood News began publishing in the area in 1994.

The restaurants span a wide variety of regional flavors and specialties, including South Indian dosas, Hyderabadi biryanis, Punjabi dishes, Indian street food, Pakistani cuisine and Himalayan-inspired fare. Diners can also find extensive vegetarian, vegan, Jain-friendly and Halal options.

Restaurants are scattered along major New Tampa corridors including Bruce B. Downs and Cross Creek boulevards, with others around Highwoods Preserve and Tampa Palms.

The growth reflects both New Tampa’s increasingly diverse population and residents’ appetite for authentic international cuisine. From long-established Minerva Indian Restaurant to newer specialty eateries, New Tampa now offers one of the area’s broadest collections of Indian dining choices.

Dolly Parton, Country Music Legend and American Icon, Dies at 80

Dolly Parton, the country music superstar whose songs, personality and generosity made her one of America’s most beloved entertainers, died Tuesday at age 80. Her family announced her death; a cause was not immediately disclosed.

Born into a poor Tennessee family of 12 children, Parton rose to international fame with classics including “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.” Her career also encompassed movies, television, business and Dollywood.

Parton’s influence extended far beyond entertainment. Her Imagination Library has distributed hundreds of millions of free books to children, while her philanthropy supported education, disaster victims and medical research.

Inducted into both the Country Music and Rock & Roll halls of fame, Parton leaves a cultural legacy spanning generations — built on music, humor, compassion and unmistakable individuality.

Florida Man Accused of Putting Meth in Sippy Cup Toddler Drank From

A Florida man has become the fifth person arrested after a 1-year-old child ingested methamphetamine from a sippy cup earlier this year in Callahan, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

Mark Windham, 46, is accused of pouring methamphetamine into the toddler’s cup before the child drank from it in February. Investigators said the toddler later began vomiting and was taken to a fire station before being transported to a hospital for possible overdose treatment.

Authorities say four other adults in the home were previously arrested on child-neglect charges after allegedly failing to immediately call 911 following the exposure. Investigators also reported finding drug paraphernalia and containers with methamphetamine residue inside the residence.

Windham was arrested Saturday after being sought since February. Sheriff Bill Leeper praised detectives for continuing the months-long investigation. Authorities have not released updated information about the child’s health or custody status.

Final Days of Bucs Camp Put Sean Tucker and Bubble Players Under Pressure

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering the pressure-packed final days of training camp, with players on the roster bubble running out of opportunities to prove they belong.

Tampa Bay must trim its roster to 53 players on Sunday, putting added importance on practices and evaluations as coaches make their final personnel decisions. Running back Sean Tucker is among the veterans facing a potentially pivotal week after contributing to the Bucs’ offense since 2023.

Attention also is turning to linebacker Josiah Trotter, Tampa Bay’s second-round draft pick out of Missouri, who has drawn comparisons to former Buccaneers standout Hardy Nickerson for his physical style of play.

With the regular season approaching, every practice repetition could influence who stays and who goes. Tampa Bay’s final roster decisions will determine not only which bubble players survive cutdown day, but also how much depth the Buccaneers carry into the 2026 season.
