Tampa Builds Financial Cushion as Amendment 3 Could Cost City Millions

Tampa officials are preparing for potentially significant revenue losses as City Council considers a roughly $2 billion Fiscal Year 2027 budget, about $47 million larger than last year’s plan.

The proposal anticipates possible passage of Amendment 3, a November ballot measure that could substantially reduce property tax revenue. To prepare, Tampa is proposing no new positions, increasing general fund reserves and trimming its five-year capital improvement plan.

City officials estimate the amendment could cost Tampa $35 million to $40 million in FY 2028, rising to $60 million to $65 million in 2029 and as much as $74 million annually by 2032. Parks and recreation could become more dependent on alternative funding.

The first public budget hearing is Tuesday at 5 p.m., with a final hearing scheduled Sept. 22. The budget must be approved before the new fiscal year begins Oct. 1.

Argument Between Boaters Preceded Pasco County Crash That Injured One

Authorities are investigating a boating collision near Durney Key in Pasco County that injured one person after an apparent argument between people aboard the two vessels.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said a 21-foot offshore yacht carrying four people and a 15-foot Carolina Skiff carrying two collided Sunday off the Pasco coast. Investigators believe occupants of the boats were involved in a verbal dispute before the crash.

No arrests have been made, and officials have not identified the six people involved or disclosed the injured person’s condition. Authorities also have not said what sparked the argument.

FWC is investigating with assistance from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and Port Richey Police Department. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has video, photographs or other information about what happened before the collision to contact the state’s Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922.

Tampa Bay Rodeo Saddles Up for Two Nights of High-Flying Arena Action

The Tampa Bay Rodeo & Family Festival returns to the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds in Dover on Sept. 4–5, bringing two evenings of professional rodeo action and family entertainment.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. each day, followed by live country music from the Whiskey County Band at 5:45 p.m. The main rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m., featuring bull riding, bronco riding, barrel racing and calf roping under the arena lights.

Beyond the competition, visitors can enjoy barbecue, tacos, Cuban sandwiches, funnel cakes and other festival favorites. Activities include mechanical bull riding, axe throwing, a bungee trampoline, monster truck rides and animal encounters with goats and camels.

The rain-or-shine weekend will also recognize America’s 250th birthday and local law enforcement, fire and rescue professionals. The festival combines traditional rodeo competition with live music, food and activities designed for both longtime rodeo fans and first-time visitors.

Bucs Get Big Injury Boost as Egbuka, McMillan Return for Bengals Week

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received encouraging injury news Monday as wide receivers Emeka Egbuka and Jalen McMillan returned to practice ahead of Sunday’s regular-season opener at Cincinnati.

Egbuka has been recovering from a toe injury, while McMillan has been working his way back from a knee injury. Both ran routes Monday, with head coach Todd Bowles saying they “ran around pretty good.” Running back Sean Tucker remained sidelined with an undisclosed injury.

Tampa Bay’s defense faces an immediate test against Joe Burrow and a potent Bengals offense featuring Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Rookie defensive back Jacob Parrish said he began studying Cincinnati during the summer.

The Bucs also announced their 2026 team captains, including Baker Mayfield, Vita Vea, Antoine Winfield Jr., Tristan Wirfs, Chris Godwin Jr. and Alex Anzalone.
