Your Backyard Renovation List Is Missing Something

Every backyard renovation has a list. New deck. Better lighting. Maybe that outdoor kitchen you've been pinning for years.

Here's what usually gets left off: shelter. Without it, your brand-new patio is only as good as the weather forecast. A Hansø pergola fixes that.

Built from T6 aerospace-grade aluminum and engineered for up to 167 mph winds and up to 65 PSF snow load, it keeps your patio covered, comfortable, and in use from spring through winter. Motorized louvers let you decide how much sky you want, anytime.

Early Bird Offers EXTENDED: save up to 40% on pergolas, plus a $1,000 installation voucher, a Free Hansø ProCheck Care™ 10-Year Plan worth $950, FREE heater and more.

The list is long. Make sure the most important thing is on it.

GOOD MORNING

Kirkland Ranch Academy Opens Student-Run Suncoast Credit Union Branch

Students at Kirkland Ranch Academy of Innovation in Wesley Chapel are getting a head start on financial careers with the opening of a student-run Suncoast Credit Union branch right on campus.

The new facility, established through a partnership between the school and Suncoast Credit Union, provides students with hands-on banking experience, allowing them to develop practical skills in financial transactions, customer service and everyday workplace responsibilities.

The initiative bridges the gap between classroom instruction and real-world experience, helping students strengthen their financial literacy, communication skills and professional confidence while gaining valuable exposure to the banking industry.

School officials expressed appreciation to Suncoast Credit Union for supporting educational opportunities that extend beyond traditional classroom learning.

The partnership represents another step toward career-focused education in Pasco County, giving Wesley Chapel students an opportunity to explore financial services while developing transferable skills that can benefit them in college, future employment and everyday life.

Amazing Fact: Students Once Ran an Entire Town — Including Its Businesses!

In 1904, educator William R. George founded the George Junior Republic in Freeville, New York, where young residents operated their own miniature economy. They earned wages, ran businesses, paid for necessities, and participated in a self-governing community complete with its own courts and elected officials.

What made the experiment extraordinary was its guiding principle: “Nothing Without Labor.” Rather than simply receiving allowances or handouts, students learned financial responsibility by participating in an economy modeled on adult life.

The experiment became an influential early example of learning through real-world responsibility, more than a century before today's student-run banks and businesses.

Deadly Shooting at Tampa Citibank Campus Leaves Two Dead, Including Gunman

(probably not this year)

Two people are dead following a shooting at Citibank’s corporate campus in Tampa on Wednesday, November 4, including one victim and the suspected gunman, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to an active threat shortly after 1 p.m., prompting a major law enforcement response and building evacuation. Sheriff Chad Chronister initially described the shooting as a targeted incident.

Authorities later confirmed that the suspect and one victim were deceased. SWAT teams conducted room-by-room searches to secure the facility and ensure no additional threats remained.

According to media reports citing police scanner traffic, a vehicle reportedly crashed into the building before the shooting. The gunman allegedly carried both a shotgun and handgun.

Early reports suggested the incident may have involved a facility vendor rather than bank employees, although officials had not confirmed that connection. The investigation remains ongoing, with additional details expected from authorities.

Why Modern Dating Isn't Working: Psychologist Explores Today's Relationship Challenges

Is modern dating making it harder to find meaningful relationships? That question is the focus of a new discussion on WFLA’s Tampa-based Bloom Health Club, featuring clinical psychologist Dr. Orion Taraban.

The segment examines concerns surrounding contemporary dating and whether today's approaches to romance may be working against people seeking lasting connections.

Modern dating increasingly involves dating apps, digital communication and access to numerous potential partners, creating opportunities to meet people while also introducing new relationship challenges.

The program invites viewers to consider how changing dating habits may influence expectations, emotional connections and the search for compatible partners.

Dr. Taraban brings a clinical psychology perspective to the conversation, offering an opportunity to examine the difficulties people encounter while navigating today's romantic landscape.

The discussion is featured in Bloom Health Club's episode titled “Why Modern Dating Isn't Working,” available through WFLA's website for Tampa Bay viewers.

Tampa General Hospital Unveils Cutting-Edge Technology for Minimally Invasive Surgery

(not an accurate representation)

Tampa General Hospital (TGH) has installed GE HealthCare’s advanced Allia Moveo image-guided therapy system in a clinical hybrid operating room, expanding access to innovative technology for minimally invasive procedures.

The installation marks the second Allia Moveo system in the Tampa Medical & Research District. Earlier this year, USF Health’s Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation became the world's first simulation center to incorporate the technology into medical training.

The new system features a compact, cable-free imaging arm that improves patient access and operating room flexibility. Advanced 3D imaging and AI-powered workflow tools are designed to help physicians perform complex procedures more efficiently while supporting personalized patient care.

The installation strengthens collaboration between Tampa General, USF Health and GE HealthCare, connecting advanced medical education directly with clinical treatment and reinforcing Tampa's growing reputation as a center for medical innovation and advanced surgical care.
