Tampa Outlet Mall Incident: Pasco Sheriff Seeks Two Suspects

courtesy of Pasco County Sheriff’s Office
In Lutz, Florida, an incident at the Tampa Premium Outlets has prompted a manhunt by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office for two suspects. The situation began with a false shooting alert on Sunday afternoon, causing minor injuries to several shoppers in the ensuing confusion.
During the investigation, authorities discovered a separate altercation in one of the mall's stores. This dispute quickly escalated, leading to one of the suspects punching a victim. Described as two Black men, one suspect was wearing a white t-shirt and sunglasses, while the other donned a light blue t-shirt with neon writing. There was no evidence of a shooting or a gun involved in the incident.
The Sheriff's Office is seeking any information related to the case and encourages witnesses to contact their Crime Tips Line at 1-800-706-2488, citing case number 23043453, or to submit tips online.
Tragic Discovery:
Tampa Police Recover Body of Missing Boat Captain Curtis Lee Cowling
In a recent tragic event, the Tampa Police reported the discovery of Curtis Lee Cowling, a boat captain, who had been missing. His body was found by divers on Monday, following reports of a submerged shrimp boat near Causeway Boulevard. Cowling, who lived on his boat and was last seen on December 16, was found without any signs of foul play.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw expressed sorrow and gratitude towards the dive team and agencies involved. He also conveyed condolences to Cowling's loved ones.
Adding to the tragedy, Cowling's boat, “Miss Jordi,” caused a significant diesel fuel spill, releasing thousands of gallons into the water. The U.S. Coast Guard and a hazardous materials team have contained the spill to McKay Bay.
Emergency Dune Restoration Put to Test by Recent Storm in Pinellas County

Recently, Pinellas County in Florida faced a major test of its newly restored beach dunes when a severe storm struck just four months after Hurricane Idalia's devastation. The emergency shoreline restoration, nearly complete, suffered considerable damage, particularly on the northern beaches.
Kelli Hammer Levy, the county's Public Works Director, described the team's extensive efforts and the dunes' vital role in shielding properties from the Gulf of Mexico's waves. Tom Russell, a local resident, expressed astonishment at the damage, acknowledging the challenges in combating natural forces.
The county is now assessing the situation to determine the next steps, which may include adding more sand or adjusting the dunes. With 180,000 cubic yards of sand already brought in for the restoration, the final phase at Indian Shores is proceeding as planned, despite the setback. Funding sources for the ongoing restoration and repairs remain to be decided.

Early Morning Thirst for Screwdriver Leads to Burglary in Polk County

In an unusual turn of events in Polk County, Florida, a 26-year-old man named Toby Foster has been charged with burglary and petit theft.
Foster's crime? Breaking into an apartment to steal vodka and orange juice, the key ingredients for making a screwdriver cocktail.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of November 23, was captured on surveillance video, showing Foster entering an infrequently used secondary door of the apartment. Once inside, he took a bottle of Svedka vodka and Florida's Natural Orange Juice, with the stolen goods valued at just over $35.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Foster subsequently turned himself in and now faces legal repercussions for his actions.

USF Football: A Season of Records and Ambition Under Coach Golesh
The University of South Florida (USF) Bulls have marked a historic first season in offense under Head Coach Alex Golesh's guidance, ready to face Syracuse in the upcoming Boca Raton Bowl. Despite being 17th in national offense statistics with 455.3 yards per game, Golesh aspires to reach the top.
Redshirt freshman Byrum Brown has emerged as USF's first 3,000-yard passer, with significant rushing yards to his credit. Wide receiver Sean Atkins is close to breaking the 1,000-yard season record. The team boasts an impressive total offense of 5,464 yards and leads in plays per game at 82.5. Naiem Simmons set a Florida state record, while transfer Nay'Quan Wright exceeded his career total with the Gators.
Golesh acknowledges the team's strengths, especially in explosive plays, but seeks improvement in red zone performance and reducing turnovers. Offensive coordinator Joel Gordon and Brown both foresee even greater success in future seasons.
