Katya La Rosa, a senior at Cypress Creek High School, has been named the Outstanding Senior for 2023-24, a testament to her exceptional academic and extracurricular achievements. La Rosa excels academically with a 4.4 GPA and a robust portfolio of advanced courses. Beyond the classroom, she is deeply involved in school activities, notably as the president of the spirit club and a key player in volleyball and track and field. La Rosa's passion for photography and videography, showcased through her business La Costa Media, highlights her creative talents.
This multifaceted senior is also setting her sights on a nursing career, inspired by her experience in the USF Pepin Family Nursing Summer Pathways Program. La Rosa's unique blend of academic prowess, artistic skill, and athletic involvement makes her a standout student and an inspiration to her peers.

Gift cards, a popular holiday gift, are at risk of losing value due to inflation, with nearly $21 billion going unused annually. Credit Summit's survey found that 60% of Americans have unused gift cards. The National Retail Federation noted significant holiday spending on gift cards, with an average of $166.69 spent per person. However, only 19% use their gift cards immediately, often saving them for special occasions.
Experts warn that with inflation over 3%, the value of these cards decreases over time. Risks include loss, business closures, or forgetting the card's existence. Peter Harms and Dorothy Kelly recommend prompt use or adding them to a digital wallet. Despite these concerns, 90% of Americans enjoy receiving gift cards, with Amazon and restaurant cards being favorites.
