Florida Man Sues Dunkin' Over Injuries from Exploding Toilet Incident

In an unusual incident at a Dunkin' location in Winter Park, Florida, a customer named Paul Kerouac has filed a negligence lawsuit against the coffee chain. The lawsuit, filed in Orlando's state court, alleges that Kerouac experienced “severe and long-term injuries” due to an exploding toilet in the men's restroom. The incident, which occurred a year ago, reportedly left him covered in human waste and debris. Kerouac's legal complaint highlights that employees were previously aware of issues with the toilet, as similar incidents had occurred.

Kerouac's attorney, Scott Spradley, was unable to provide immediate details on the specific injuries but indicated a response would be forthcoming. The lawsuit details that Kerouac has required mental health care and counseling since the incident in January 2022. Meanwhile, Dunkin', headquartered in Canton, Massachusetts, has not yet issued a response to the lawsuit.

Florida Senior Arrested for Threatening Congressman and Family

A 72-year-old man from Florida, Michael Shapiro, was recently arrested for issuing death threats against Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell and his children. Shapiro left a series of hostile voicemail messages at Swalwell's Washington, D.C. office, hurling insults and threatening violence. The messages, traced back to Shapiro's phone, included grave threats and derogatory terms against Swalwell. The US Capitol Police's Threat Assessment Section was instrumental in linking Shapiro to these threats.

Despite this alarming situation, Swalwell firmly denounced political violence and vowed to continue serving his constituents with determination. Shapiro, previously guilty of similar offenses in 2019, appeared in court as an indigent and was assigned a public defender. This incident has highlighted the pressing issue of political violence and the need for its resolution through democratic means.

USF Bulls Stampede Over Syracuse in Historic 45-0 Boca Bowl Victory

USF's commanding 45-0 victory over Syracuse in the Boca Raton Bowl marks a historic moment for the team, showcasing a blend of strategic play, individual talent, and team spirit.

This win, a result of impressive performances from key players, sets a new standard in college football bowl history for its lopsided nature.

Quarterback Byrum Brown's exceptional play, with a record-setting completion percentage and total single-season yards, was a highlight, alongside standout contributions from Sean Atkins and Daquan Evans.

The game's pivotal moment came with USF's Aamaris Brown-Bunkley's 64-yard touchdown following a mishandled Syracuse field-goal attempt.

This win signifies more than just a game; it marks USF's revival in football, with a newfound team identity and an optimistic outlook for the upcoming season.

Long-COVID Mystery Unraveled: Mitochondrial Dysfunction Causes Debilitating Fatigue

In groundbreaking research by Amsterdam UMC and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, scientists have pinpointed a biological cause for the chronic fatigue experienced by long-COVID patients.

The study, involving 25 long-COVID patients and 21 healthy individuals, revealed that the mitochondria in muscle cells of long-COVID sufferers produce less energy.

Participants underwent a 15-minute cycling test, which exacerbated symptoms in the long-COVID group, indicating a condition known as post-exertional malaise. This discovery refutes the theory of lingering coronavirus particles causing long-COVID, as muscle tissue analysis showed no such evidence.

Researchers advise patients to engage in mild physical activities, tailored to their individual thresholds, to manage their condition effectively.

Revolutionary Research Suggests Anorexia Nervosa Might Be a Morning Phenomenon

Recent research has discovered a genetic link between anorexia nervosa and being an early riser, a pattern known as the morning chronotype.

This study, led by Massachusetts General Hospital and published in JAMA Network Open, marks a shift from the usual evening orientation of psychiatric disorders. The researchers used Mendelian Randomization to analyze the genetic connections between anorexia, the circadian clock, and sleep traits.

They found a two-way association between genes related to anorexia and those associated with morning chronotype, suggesting that being an early riser might increase the risk for anorexia, and vice versa. Additionally, a connection between anorexia and a higher risk of insomnia was established.

These findings provide new insights into anorexia nervosa and could lead to novel circadian-based treatments.
