Transforming Tampa: Major Interchange Overhaul to Cut Crashes and Congestion by 2027!

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced that the major overhaul of the I-275 to I-4 interchange in downtown Tampa is slated for completion by 2027.
This project is anticipated to alleviate the frequent congestion and reduce the high incidence of crashes, currently nearing 1,000 annually.
During a recent virtual open house, FDOT presented a video detailing the upcoming changes, which include a two-lane exit from I-275 southbound to I-4 eastbound and a new bridge facilitating access to I-4. The plans also feature new green spaces and potential recreational areas in nearby neighborhoods.
Despite the focus on roadway improvements, a local survey indicates a strong public desire for more public transit options, highlighting residents' frustrations with the current transportation system.
FDOT responded to these concerns, acknowledging the value of public transit but pointing out funding challenges related to ongoing maintenance and operations.
