Tropicana Transformation: Rays' New Eco-Friendly Turf Scores a Home Run!

This season, Tampa Bay Rays fans are in for a unique experience at Tropicana Field. The stadium will debut a striking new artificial turf, designed to mimic a freshly mowed grass field, complete with a distinctive striped pattern. This innovative surface replaces traditional rubber pellets with eco-friendly coconut husks, enhancing the playability and aesthetic of the field. Additionally, the Rays are pioneering the use of Safeshell, a unique filler made from crushed walnut shells, a first in Major League Baseball.

The initiative extends beyond the field, with the Rays repurposing their old turf for community use, benefiting local sports facilities and providing cost-effective solutions for the area.

Fans can also anticipate an upgraded culinary experience, featuring new food stalls, exclusive dishes, and expanded beverage partnerships, ensuring a memorable and flavorful visit to The Trop.

Green on the Green: USF Phenom Clinches Third AAC Golfer of the Week Title!

Melanie Green, a senior golfer from the University of South Florida, clinched her third American Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Golfer of the Week award this spring, following a standout performance at the Mountain View Collegiate. This achievement marks Green's second victory of the season, contributing to the Bulls' impressive third team win. With this triumph, Green etches her name in USF history as the sixth player to secure multiple season wins, a feat last achieved by a Bull in the 2018-19 season.

During the event, Green demonstrated exceptional skill, opening with a 67, which included seven birdies. She maintained strong form, ending with a spectacular 66 in the final round, leading her to a three-stroke win.

Her season has been remarkable, with consistent top 10 finishes and a significant role in USF's stellar performance, including setting a new program record at the Westbrook Invitational. Green, a model of consistency and excellence, has continued her upward trajectory after a record-breaking previous season and remains a pivotal figure in USF's ascendant golf program.

Mystery Solved: The HMS Tyger's Final Resting Place Unveiled Off Florida Keys

A shipwreck discovered off the Florida Keys has been confirmed as the HMS Tyger, a British warship that sank in 1742. National Park Service archaeologists, utilizing advanced research techniques, linked the wreckage, initially found in 1993 near Dry Tortugas National Park, to the historic vessel.

The Tyger, a Fourth-Rate frigate armed with 50 guns, met its fate during the War of Jenkins' Ear after grounding on the reefs. Recent surveys unearthed cannons and other artifacts, corroborating the ship's identity.

The crew, once stranded on Garden Key, ingeniously crafted vessels from the wreckage to navigate to Jamaica, leaving behind a ship they scuttled to safeguard its armaments.

This site remains under British sovereignty, a testament to historical naval endeavors and the evolving field of underwater archaeology.
