GOOD MORNING!
Yesterday was a day of wonder as well as wonder at wacko’s! They say a full moon brings out the worst of people. We may have seen what a solar eclipse can do.
I hesitated to include the story of driving recklessness but we could have been that older couple leaving Busch Gardens with a grandchild, with good memories of the day - to be cut tragically short by a 20-something, with her child, rushing to get home - all now dead but the small children.
What a price to pay.

Speeding to Tragedy: Florida Crash Highlights the Perils of Recklessness

In a tragic event that left a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving, a devastating accident occurred in Lake Wales, Florida, involving 22-year-old Hannah Wieser of Winter Haven.
Driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph, Wieser attempted a risky maneuver to overtake a vehicle, leading to a head-on collision with a pickup truck carrying a family returning from a joyful day at Busch Gardens. The crash resulted in the death of Wieser, along with Luis Rodriguez, 54, and Jomar Maldonado, 52, of Port St. Lucie, who were grandparents to a 3-year-old boy. The toddler, miraculously surviving the collision, was treated and released from an Orlando children’s hospital. This incident not only took the lives of three individuals but also left two children without their family members.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd highlighted the preventable nature of this tragedy, noting Wieser's earlier near-miss with a semi-truck. The sheriff's office reported that all individuals involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, emphasizing the recklessness of Wieser's driving as a primary cause.
Investigations into the influence of drugs or alcohol are pending, though a beer can was found impaled in Wieser’s leg at the crash scene. This heartbreaking event serves as a grave reminder of the consequences of dangerous driving behaviors.

Divine Command or Deadly Misinterpretation: Solar Eclipse Shooting Shocks Florida

During a solar eclipse, a 22-year-old woman named Taylon Nichelle Celestine embarked on a shooting spree on a Florida highway, injuring two people.
Claiming to have been instructed by God, Celestine engaged in this act of violence shortly after leaving a hotel where she mentioned her deadly intent. She was apprehended by state troopers who found firearms in her vehicle.
Celestine is now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder. The incident has sparked discussions on the interpretation of celestial events in religious contexts, highlighting varied perspectives on their significance.

NAIA Sets Precedent: Bans Transgender Participation in Women’s Collegiate Sports

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), a key body for collegiate sports predominantly involving smaller colleges, has officially adopted a new policy that prohibits transgender athletes from participating in women's sports. This decision was unanimously passed by the NAIA's Council of Presidents with a 20-0 vote, marking a significant move believed to be the first among college sports organizations in the nation.
Under this new policy, athletes are allowed to compete in NAIA-sponsored male sports categories without restrictions. However, participation in women's sports is limited exclusively to individuals whose biological sex is female and who have not initiated hormone therapy. While students undergoing hormone therapy may engage in team activities like workouts and practices, they are barred from competing in interscholastic competitions.
The policy carves out exceptions for competitive cheer and dance, which remain open to all students regardless of their gender identity. The NAIA justifies this policy by highlighting the inherent physical advantages in sports related to strength, speed, and stamina that male athletes might have. This contentious decision aligns with the broader debate on transgender athletes' participation in female sports, underscored by a recent lawsuit filed against the NCAA by current and former female athletes over similar concerns.
