Tampa's Streetlight Taco Wins Michelin Bib Gourmand Award for Outstanding Value

taco, taco, taco

Streetlight Taco in South Tampa has been awarded the prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand for its quality dining at an excellent value. This taqueria, located on Henderson Boulevard, is renowned for its fresh masa and hand-pressed tortillas. The decor blends modern elements like black-painted ductwork and Mexican comics on the tables, enhancing its fast-casual ambiance.

The menu's highlight is its array of tacos, such as the Michelin-praised Japanese eggplant taco with heirloom bean puree and chile onza salsa, priced at $11 for two. The restaurant's unique culinary offerings extend beyond tacos, featuring dishes like tostadas and 'doriesquites'—Doritos topped with a corn mix, along with a selection of dips and small plates from the 'mercado' section.

Streetlight Taco operates six days a week, opening at 11:30 a.m. and hosting diners until late evening. The Michelin accolade spotlights the taqueria's commitment to quality and value, setting it apart in Tampa's vibrant culinary scene. An official Michelin ceremony is scheduled for April 18 at the Tampa EDITION hotel.

Ready for Takeoff: St. Pete-Clearwater's $110 Million Expansion Plan Unveiled

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – To accommodate the surge of travelers in the Tampa Bay area, the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is poised for a major expansion. This project, the largest in its history, aims to handle the growing traffic which reached nearly 2.5 million passengers last year.

Travelers currently appreciate the airport for its convenience, but note its increasing busyness. In response, airport officials have unveiled a $110 million expansion plan. This funding will be used to enlarge the terminal, consolidate TSA checkpoints, and add four new gates. These upgrades will enhance flight options and dining experiences, including an expanded presence for popular spots like Mazzaro's in the food court.

Michele Routh, a representative for the airport, highlighted the urgent need for expansion, pointing out that peak travel days see the airport bustling with activity, pushing current facilities to their limits.

Traveler Dave Gyoerkoes expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming changes, particularly the potential benefits for dining and navigation within the airport. As the expansion progresses, regular users like Gyoerkoes hope the airport will maintain its reputation for easy navigation.

Crunch Carefully! Local Baker Warns of Diamond-Studded Cookies

Imagine driving a car w/right front tire missing

In a surprising twist at Sis' Sweets Cookies and Café in Kansas, owner Dawn Monroe discovered the diamond from her wedding ring missing after preparing cookie dough. The diamond, valued at over $4,000 and a symbol of her marriage for nearly four decades, was last seen on her hand before she began her baking.

Monroe, distressed over the loss, appealed to her customers through a Facebook post and local news to inspect their recent purchases for the missing gem—a marquis cut diamond.

The concerned baker emphasized the risk of customers potentially biting into the diamond, especially since it could be embedded in any of the chocolate chip, sugar, or peanut butter cookies.

Monroe is offering a reward to anyone who safely returns the diamond, stating, "I would definitely make it worth your while bringing it back."

From Lab to Lifeline: How Vibrating Technology Could Change Stroke Rehabilitation

see article for more realistic view of glove

Researchers at Stanford University are exploring innovative vibrating technology to combat spasticity in stroke patients, a condition causing severe muscle stiffness that affects roughly a quarter of all stroke survivors. Nearly 800,000 Americans suffer a stroke annually, often leading to involuntary muscle contractions that make simple movements like opening a hand excruciating or impossible.

Dr. Maarten Lansberg, a neurologist involved in both patient care and research, highlighted the involuntary nature of spasticity, which may involve spinal cord reflexes more than the brain itself. The technology, developed in Stanford’s CHARM Lab under Professor Allison Okamura, is a specialized glove equipped with motors that emit vibrations. These vibrations, adjustable in intensity and pattern, aim to alleviate the muscle stiffness characteristic of spasticity.

In a clinical trial, stroke patients used this vibrotactile stimulation glove for three hours daily over eight weeks, showing results comparable or superior to Botox treatments, currently a common spasticity management method. Patients reported significant improvements, with some reluctant to return the device after the trial.

Although still in the experimental stage, this device promises a potentially more accessible and regular treatment for managing spasticity, with hopes of broader availability within the next few years.
