GOOD MORNING!

I apologize that I won’t be able to keep the events calendar up to date for a while; trying to recover from an illness that is stubbornly persistent - hopefully not much longer

Critically Endangered Orangutan Welcomed at Tampa's Busch Gardens

In a delightful development at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, a newborn Bornean orangutan has been welcomed into the world. This special arrival, a female weighing 3.4 pounds, was born last Saturday evening through a C-section procedure.

Luna, the mother and also a Bornean orangutan, is currently recuperating from the surgery. The delivery involved a collaborative effort from a diverse team of medical and zoological experts from various organizations.

The following day, Luna had her first interaction with her newborn, marking a poignant moment of bonding. Park officials have announced that both mother and child are receiving attentive care and will continue to be under close observation by a dedicated team of veterinarians and animal care specialists. They plan to reunite Luna and her baby permanently once both are fully stable.

Trinity Teen Wins National Coding Contest with Innovative Drone Game

A teenage boy working hard at his computer coding

Alexander Thomas, a teenager from Trinity, Florida, achieved national recognition by winning a prestigious drone-themed coding contest hosted by Code Ninjas and Sky Elements. As a participant in the Code Ninjas Prodigy Program, Thomas demonstrated exceptional coding skills through his game, "Drone Destruction," where players navigate a dungeon filled with robotic enemies to save a friend. This engaging creation not only displayed his technical prowess but also his creativity and problem-solving capabilities.

His victory earned him a trip to Dallas, Texas, where he collaborated with the Sky Elements team to see his game concepts transformed into a drone show, an experience he described as exhilarating.

Thomas, who has been coding for most of his life and actively developing his skills at Code Ninjas for over a year, aspires to make a significant impact in the technology sector. His success in the competition underscores his potential in the field of game design and technology innovation.

Rays' Amed Rosario Delivers Clutch Hits in Key Series Win Over Giants

In a thrilling home series at Tropicana Field, Tampa Bay Rays infielder Amed Rosario was instrumental in securing the team's first series win of the 2024 season against the San Francisco Giants.

The Rays emerged victorious in two of the three games, enhancing their season record to 9-7. Rosario's standout performance included a crucial double in the series opener, helping the Rays to a narrow 2-1 victory.

Although absent in the second game, which the Rays lost 11-2, Rosario returned with force in the series finale. He hit a significant two-run homer and added two more hits, contributing to a 9-4 win.

Rosario's early season stats include a .318 batting average and an .810 OPS, positioning him as a key player in the Rays' lineup. The team is set to continue their campaign with a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels.

Harness the Power of Breathing to Combat Daily Stress, Says Tampa Brain Expert

The Breath of Fire exercise (literally)

In Tampa, Dr. Patrick Porter, a brain scientist, advocates for specific breathing exercises to combat daily stress and enhance mental clarity. His suggested routine includes three key exercises tailored for different times of the day.

In the morning, he recommends the "Breath of Fire" technique—rapid breaths through the nose for 30 seconds—to energize and stimulate the brain. Afternoon stress and mental fatigue can be managed with "Box Breathing," involving inhaling and exhaling in four-second intervals to maintain focus. At night, to facilitate deep relaxation and a good night's sleep, Dr. Porter advises a breathing pattern of inhaling for four seconds and exhaling for eight.

He also highlights the calming effects of classical music on brain health. To help individuals track their progress with these exercises, Dr. Porter developed an app called "Brain Tap." This app provides structured guidance to ensure effective stress management and mental wellness throughout the day.
