$156 Million Boost for Florida's Solar Energy Access for Lower Income Families

Yum!

n a significant step toward sustainable energy access, Florida's lower and middle-income households will soon benefit from federal assistance for rooftop solar installations. A coalition of Florida nonprofits has received $156 million to facilitate the Solar for All program, aiming to make solar energy affordable through grants, subsidies, or low-interest loans.

The initiative, managed by the Solar and Energy Loan Fund along with two other groups, anticipates aiding around 10,000 homes. This funding, part of the Inflation Reduction Act’s climate initiatives, will help families reduce energy costs and enhance resilience against natural disasters. Duanne Andrade, who leads the effort, highlighted the program’s commitment to community support and environmental sustainability.

Applications are expected to open this fall, with additional information available online for interested residents. This initiative marks a crucial effort by local nonprofits to secure federal support after the state government did not apply for funding.

SETS Hybrid Training to Launch First Florida Gym in New Tampa This Month

SETS Hybrid Training, a popular New Jersey-based fitness franchise, is set to open its first Florida location in New Tampa by the end of the month. The gym, managed by New Jersey native Phil Diaz, will be located in the Pebble Creek Collection on Bruce B. Downs Blvd.

This new site aims to transplant SETS's community-centric fitness philosophy to Florida, offering daily group fitness classes tailored to a variety of fitness levels and community-building activities like monthly happy hours and an annual Christmas party. Phil Diaz emphasizes that the gym is designed to be inclusive, catering to everyone from seasoned athletes to fitness novices.

The New Tampa location is part of a broader plan to open three gyms in the area over the next three years. The grand opening on April 27 will feature classes, vendors, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Special pre-opening membership rates are available, providing unlimited classes without an enrollment fee.

Wesley Chapel Boulevard to Undergo $70M Transformation, Adding Lanes and Pedestrian Paths

Pasco County has given the green light to a long-awaited $69.4 million project to widen Wesley Chapel Boulevard to Old Pasco Road. The project aims to transform the current patchwork road into a six-lane thoroughfare complete with sidewalks and a bike lane, enhancing access and safety for one of the fastest-growing areas in the U.S.

Managed by David Nelson Construction Company, the road's expansion addresses critical traffic congestion and provides a necessary alternative route to Interstate 75. After overcoming obstacles such as property acquisitions from 25 different owners and extensive redesigns, the project is poised to begin, with completion targeted for May 2027. This upgrade is part of broader efforts to improve local infrastructure to keep pace with rapid regional development.
