Modern Market Eatery Targets Tampa for Expansion, Plans Eight New Locations

Modern Market Eatery, a Denver-based fast-casual restaurant chain known for its health-conscious menu, is set to expand into the Tampa Bay area. The company plans to establish eight new outlets in the region within the next six to seven years, significantly increasing its presence and creating numerous job opportunities.
Since its inception in 2009 in Boulder, Colorado, Modern Market Eatery has been dedicated to revolutionizing fast food with a focus on wholesome, sustainable ingredients. Their menu boasts scratch-made entrees that have garnered a strong customer base across various states including Colorado, Texas, Arizona, Kansas, and Missouri.
The expansion strategy not only aims to meet the rising demand for clean eating options but also to enhance local employment with up to 25 full- and part-time positions anticipated at each new Tampa location. Chris Cheek, the Chief Development Officer, expressed optimism about the expansion, citing the ongoing trend toward healthier dining choices in America as a prime opportunity for new franchisees, especially in bustling markets like Tampa. The chain started franchising in 2021 to spur growth and has since seen significant interest, with major franchisee Thrive Restaurant Group already planning numerous new outlets across different states.
Florida Grants Jury Duty Exemption to New Mothers

In Florida, a new legislative measure has been introduced to exempt new mothers from jury duty. Governor Ron DeSantis officially enacted HB 461 on Friday, establishing an exemption for women who have given birth within the last six months prior to their jury duty summons date. Eligible new mothers can now request to be excused from serving, with the law set to be effective from July 1.
The process of jury selection in Florida involves randomly picking individuals from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles records, primarily those who hold a driver's license or ID card. Jurors must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen or legal resident of Florida, and reside in the county of the summons. Those without a driver's license can still be included in the jury pool if they meet the other criteria and complete an affidavit.
Certain groups are automatically disqualified from jury duty, including state officials such as the governor and judges, as well as those with legal conflicts or criminal convictions. Others, such as law enforcement officers, pregnant women, caregivers, seniors over 70, and those facing hardship or inconvenience, can also apply for exemption.
Jury duty typically lasts for the duration of the trial. Jurors employed with regular wages are not compensated for the first three days; however, those without regular employment receive $15 per day during this initial period and $30 per day thereafter.

HOV Lane Hoax: Mannequin Fails to Fool California Patrol

AI Uses Creative License here: (no wonder the cop pulled this driver over!)
A driver in California faced citations after attempting to deceive traffic authorities by using a mannequin as a passenger to exploit carpool lane privileges.
The incident occurred when the California Highway Patrol in Santa Fe Springs stopped a vehicle for crossing solid double lines. Upon inspection, officers discovered that the driver's supposed co-passenger was merely a highly realistic mannequin, strategically seated and buckled up.
The state patrol issued several citations for carpool violations, emphasizing that despite the mannequin's convincing appearance, it did not qualify as a legitimate passenger for HOV lane usage.
In California, known for severe traffic jams, HOV lane violations carry a hefty minimum fine of $490, which escalates with subsequent offenses.

Marathon Mourning: 25-Year-Old Runner Dies During Nashville Race Amidst Soaring Temperatures

A tragic event unfolded during Nashville's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon when a 25-year-old male participant passed away after collapsing during the race. The incident occurred 3 hours and 49 minutes into the marathon, specifically in the Shelby Park area. Immediate medical intervention was provided at the scene, where CPR was administered before the runner was urgently transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Race organizers and the Rock 'n' Roll Running Series have expressed their deepest condolences and extended their support to the family and friends of the deceased. They commended the swift response of the medical team who attended to the participant during this critical time.
The marathon was marked by unusually high temperatures, starting at 70 degrees Fahrenheit and peaking in the 80s by the afternoon, as reported by the National Weather Service.
Although deaths in marathons are relatively rare, with a reported average of one fatality per approximately 150,000 participants, conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy are known contributing factors to such unfortunate outcomes in endurance events.
