Tropical Heatwave Lights Up Ybor City Once Again with Diverse Musical Lineup

This weekend, WMNF revitalizes Ybor City with its renowned Tropical Heatwave festival at the Cuban Club, featuring nearly 20 diverse bands. Born from a grassroots movement in 1979, WMNF has nurtured this event into a symbol of community and musical diversity. Notable for its memorable shows from music legends like Bo Diddley in its early years, the festival has been a platform for both renowned and emerging artists across various genres.
After overcoming challenges including a temporary suspension in 2016, Tropical Heatwave makes a robust comeback. This year's highlights include Grammy-nominated The Record Company and the soul-disco trio She She She.
The festival remains a testament to WMNF’s dedication to eclectic programming, offering something for every musical taste while keeping ticket prices accessible.
Tropical Heatwave continues to embody Tampa Bay’s unique blend of cultural celebration and musical innovation, inviting the community to partake in a night of unforgettable performances and vibrant energy.
Eighth Annual Riverfest Set to Dazzle with Grammy Winners and Local Flavors This Weekend

This weekend also, Tampa's Riverwalk will come alive with the colorful and vibrant Riverfest, celebrating its eighth year along the scenic Hillsborough River. From May 3-4, the festival will feature a rich array of activities including Grammy Award-winning hip-hop group Arrested Development headlining on the main stage at Curtis Hixon Park.
The event will offer a host of local talents and entertainments, from a unique hot air balloon glow to the charming Wiener Dog Derby, alongside paddleboard races, and yoga sessions in the green. Attendees can enjoy a Friday night 'Taste of the Riverwalk' and a 'Taco Fest' on Saturday, promising a weekend filled with culinary delights.
Originally conceived in 1975 and gradually expanded over decades, Tampa's Riverwalk has transformed the city's downtown area into a vibrant community hub, attracting more than 20,000 visitors annually to Riverfest. The festival not only showcases the area's recreational and cultural offerings but also symbolizes the city's ongoing transformation into a lively urban space.
As the Riverwalk brings together a diverse mix of people, it has become a central meeting place in Tampa, reflecting the city's growth and the community's newfound appreciation for its waterfront location.

Wisconsin Middle Schooler Takes the Wheel, Saves Day During Bus Crisis

An 8th-grade student from Wisconsin heroically prevented a school bus accident after the driver suffered a medical emergency and became unresponsive. Acie Holland III, the student, noticed the bus veering towards an oncoming lane and immediately took action. He managed to remove the driver's foot from the accelerator and applied the brakes, bringing the bus to a safe stop. He then secured the vehicle, called 911, and ensured that the younger students contacted their parents. Holland’s quick thinking and actions ensured the safety of all the students on board.
Throughout his young life, Holland III has been exposed to mechanical work and problem-solving, thanks to the guidance of his father, Acie Holland II, who praised his son’s capabilities and courage.
The school community at Glen Hills Middle School celebrated Holland's bravery, referring to him as "AC-Hero." The incident not only showcased his quick reflexes but also his leadership and compassion, qualities that he attributes to the positive influence of his family.

Navigating the Challenges: What Happens When You Stop Taking Wegovy?

Millions of Americans using popular obesity drugs like Wegovy face a dilemma: the consequences of discontinuing their medication. Studies show that stopping the drugs often results in significant weight regain. As a result, some users are experimenting with methods to maintain their weight loss without continuous use, such as spacing out doses or using the drugs intermittently.
Despite the drugs being prescribed to over 3 million people monthly, only 40% continue using them after a year. These medications, including semaglutide and tirzepatide, mimic hormones that regulate hunger and fullness and are designed for ongoing use. However, side effects and high costs—ranging from $1,000 to $1,300 per month—prompt some patients to consider stopping. Unfortunately, discontinuation often leads to a return of obesity symptoms and lessened drug efficacy upon resumption.
Healthcare experts emphasize that obesity needs consistent management and that intermittent use of these drugs might not suit everyone, highlighting the challenges in managing obesity through pharmacotherapy.
