Keep your finger on the Pulse!

GOOD MORNING!

Surprise - This is a SPECIAL EDITION highlighting the US Special Operations Forces Demo at the Tampa Convention Center yesterday.

I hadn’t planned on doing this but it was such an impressive day, I couldn’t not share it with you all.

There will be no articles, just highlights (photos and videos) of these highly skilled armed forces.

At the bottom of the page, please share your thoughts on whether you enjoyed this today.

See the Forces at Work

Firsthand:

Motorized Paragliders

IMG: Special Ops demo at Tampa Convention Ctr

Forgive me if I don’t always use the correct terminology for these specialized troops. Blame it on my USAF background which offered limited exposure to the other branches of our military. However, you'll likely grasp what I’m trying to convey.

I braved the heat and traffic just to see what all the buzz was about. Even from these brief highlights, you should be moved by what you witness.

This photo captures art in motion: watching these troops fly in beautiful formation as they approach the viewing area for the military convention attendees is stunning. This comes after witnessing drones in action, which are barely visible against the sky above the hotel on the right.

During my time in the USAF, I had the opportunity to fly one of our copters to another base in the Philippines. Fun!

Once out of uniform, though, I then had the rare opportunity to fly a Blackhawk helicopter to the US Army’s National Training base in California where the Army trains its troops to a higher level.

It turns out, the pilot taking us there was flying the very same aircraft he flew in Afghanistan! When he found out, by reading the tail numbers, it was like he was reunited with his long lost friend because of the bond these pilots form with their machines, especially in combat.

But today, witnessing these Special Ops helicopters execute maneuvers with troops precariously positioned at the door edges was something else.

We're witnessing a new level of skill advancement. See for yourself! (Click the image above).

Today's display of precision by paratroopers was unexpected. They drifted silently over the rooftop behind us, gracefully entering the viewing area. While 'graceful' might not be the first word they'd choose to describe their work, 'precision' undoubtedly is. This term better captures the essence of their skills and the meticulous nature of their roles.

If you’re short on time, feel free to skip ahead to the 1:00 minute mark to start watching.

I didn’t have a chance to edit this down, but watching the entire video is still worthwhile. You might be just as surprised as we were by how this maneuver concludes.

Going Home!

Enlarge this photo to appreciate more detail. It's rare to see helicopters flying this low and close to the ground. Witness the high skill level of the pilots and troops involved.

Final Words

In just an hour or so, I quickly developed a profound appreciation for the training and sacrifices made by these highly skilled members of Special Operations teams worldwide, on behalf of all of us.

It was an honor to serve in the USAF, and I hold fond memories of the dedicated men and women I met and worked alongside.

I hope these displays of courage and skill have moved you as well.

I'll be back with a regular edition tomorrow. Have a great day!
