From Dance Studio to Classroom, Wesley Chapel's Top Student Triumphs

Taylorr Himmelberger, Wesley Chapel High School's valedictorian, has excelled in both academics and dance, achieving a 4.65 GPA despite a genetic hearing defect. Discovering her potential as valedictorian in her freshman year, Himmelberger maintained her top ranking through rigorous AP and dual enrollment classes, earning an associate of arts degree from Pasco-Hernando State College.

Her key to success? Avoiding procrastination. “I’m not necessarily the smartest person you'll ever meet, but I'm definitely the hardest worker,” Himmelberger said, completing assignments early to make time for dance. With 14 years of dancing experience and three years of teaching, the dance studio is her refuge.

Himmelberger plans to study molecular biology at the University of South Florida, aiming for a career in research, particularly in pathology and oncology. Her hearing impairment has been a challenge, but she hasn’t let it deter her. Preparing to address her classmates at graduation, her message emphasizes embracing setbacks, finding support, and persevering.

Tampa Rideshare Drivers Struggle with Rising Costs and Lower Earnings

Traditionally, the holiday season has been lucrative for rideshare drivers using platforms like Uber, Lyft, and Doordash. However, a recent study by the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment found that drivers' average pay is now below minimum wage during off-peak seasons. Despite U.S. Uber drivers earning about $33 per hour while on a trip in late 2023, Florida drivers face reduced earnings due to rising auto insurance premiums.

Experienced driver Yvonne Chandler noted that expenses such as gas, insurance, and vehicle maintenance make the job less profitable. Her boyfriend, Leonida Karassavidos, continues driving for the job's flexibility but also sees a decrease in earnings, now relying heavily on tips.

An Uber spokesperson acknowledged the impact of increased insurance costs on driver earnings but maintained that Florida is a lucrative market due to tourism. Uber is addressing driver concerns by introducing new protections and updating deactivation policies to mitigate additional costs.

Manhattanhenge Returns: Witness the Stunning Sunset Alignment in NYC

Twice a year, New Yorkers and visitors witness Manhattanhenge, when the setting sun aligns perfectly with Manhattan's street grid, creating a breathtaking view framed by skyscrapers. This year's Manhattanhenge occurs on May 28 at 8:13 p.m., May 29 at 8:12 p.m., and again on July 12 and 13.

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson coined the term in 1997, inspired by the sun's alignment at Stonehenge. Unlike Stonehenge's intentional design, Manhattanhenge's alignment is a happy accident of city planning.

Manhattanhenge happens about three weeks before and after the summer solstice, offering two versions: half the sun visible on May 28 and July 13, and the full sun on May 29 and July 12.

Prime viewing spots include 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd, and 57th Streets, with the best views from the eastern ends. Long Island City in Queens also offers good vantage points. While mostly a spontaneous event, clear weather is essential for visibility.

Other cities with grid systems, like Chicago and Toronto, experience similar events, but Manhattanhenge is uniquely striking due to its tall buildings and clear view of the Hudson River.
