GOOD MORNING

On a personal note, yesterday was a day at the dental office(s) for me.

Plural because it turned out I needed specialty care I didn’t expect. I want to give a shoutout to the Doctors and staff members who treated me. It’s always more challenging to treat a colleague who’s been in the biz, even if that person (me) was still not looking forward to what was coming - like any other typical dental patient.

Both Dr Justin Mitchell of McIlwain Family Dentistry and Dr Brian Wells of Wells Endodontics, provided me an experience that went well beyond what I expected, and I already knew both were excellent. I highly recommend both based on my experiences yesterday. Thank you.

Dade City Reapproves Controversial Development Amid Lawsuit Fears

Dade City has had to approve a redo of the Crosswinds development, a 272-acre project adding 2,500 new residences, due to procedural errors leading to a lawsuit.

The City Commission initially approved the development in late 2022, but failed to follow proper processes, prompting a legal challenge from resident Mary McKnight. Concerns include the strain on city infrastructure and the discrepancy between what was presented to the public and what was approved.

City Attorney Patrick Brackins warned that rejecting the reapproval could result in a costly lawsuit under the Bert J. Harris Act. Despite reservations and resident opposition, the commission voted unanimously to reaffirm the rezoning and send the comprehensive plan amendment to the state for review. Commissioners expressed regret but prioritized avoiding expensive litigation.

The development area is located near U.S. 98, U.S. 301, Old Lakeland Highway, and Clinton Avenue.

Independent Horror Film 'Deer Camp '86' Overcomes COVID-19 Hurdles to Hit Theaters

"Deer Camp '86," an independent horror film partially filmed in St. Petersburg, stars Paul Wilson and Noah LaLonde from Netflix's "My Life With the Walter Boys." The movie, primarily shot in Michigan, follows a group of friends on a hunting trip who are terrorized by an ancient spirit. Created during the COVID-19 pandemic, the film overcame numerous challenges, including strict safety protocols.

Director Harold Cronk, known for "God's Not Dead," and writer Eric Machiela, shifted their focus to this project when larger productions were halted. They quickly developed the script, secured funding from Tampa businessperson Anthony Morris, and filmed with a minimal cast and crew.

The plot centers on six friends who awaken a vengeful spirit during a deer hunting trip in 1986.

To ensure safety, the cast and crew were regularly tested for COVID-19 and sequestered in a hotel, fostering a collaborative environment. One of the final scenes was shot at Local Church St. Pete.

"Deer Camp '86" premieres on Friday, showcasing the team's resilience and creativity during the pandemic.
