GOOD MORNING

If you’ve ever had the opportunity to visit the West Point Military Academy, to experience the history that infuses that beautiful campus on the Hudson River, you can fully appreciate the honor and pride that Jazmine Alderman feels to be graduating from such a distinguished program. My hat is off to this young woman from St. Pete for her accomplishment.

Thwarting 'Takeovers': Busch Gardens and Police Join Forces

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay faced a violent "takeover" last week, where a massive fight broke out among guests.

The event, organized through social media, encouraged participants to "bring the drama" and engage in fights. Reports of a gun being brought into the park also circulated.

Following this incident, organizers announced plans for additional "takeovers" on July 4th and 6th. In response, park fans alerted law enforcement and park security. Busch Gardens has partnered with local law enforcement to increase security presence and implement new entry precautions.

Tampa Police are investigating the initial fight and requesting information from witnesses. The park and authorities are working to prevent future "takeovers" and ensure guest safety during the busy holiday weekend

First African American Female from Admiral Farragut Academy Graduates West Point

A St. Petersburg native, Jazmine Alderman, has achieved a milestone:

Historic Achievement: Jazmine Alderman's graduation marks a significant milestone as she is the first African American female from Admiral Farragut Academy to attend West Point.

  • Background: Initially aspiring to attend college on a track scholarship, Alderman became deeply involved in her studies and extracurricular activities, leading to her acceptance and graduation from West Point.

  • Community Impact: Alderman aims to inspire young girls in her community, showcasing that they too can achieve such prestigious accomplishments.

  • Graduation Celebration: This semester, Alderman celebrated her graduation with 49 other young Black women at West Point.

  • Next Steps: Alderman will return to New York before embarking on her first assignment.

Jazmine Alderman’s journey from a track hopeful to a history-making graduate exemplifies determination and serves as an inspiration to her community. She hopes her story will encourage other young girls to pursue their dreams and seize opportunities.

One unexpected and striking fact about West Point Military Academy is that during the Civil War, the Academy produced graduates who went on to become generals for both the Union and the Confederacy.

This means that former classmates and fellow graduates found themselves on opposite sides of the battlefield, leading troops against each other in one of the most significant conflicts in American history.

Nationwide Celebrations Highlighted by Addison's "Kaboom Town" Fireworks

Thousands of spectators gathered in Addison, Texas, to witness one of the most spectacular fireworks shows in the United States. The town, located just outside Dallas, was anticipating a crowd of half a million for its renowned July Fourth celebration.

Fireworks have been a staple of Independence Day celebrations since the founding of the country. This year, the American Pyrotechnics Association estimated that around 16,000 fireworks displays would light up the skies nationwide.

A standout among these displays is the "Kaboom Town" fireworks show in Addison. This event, orchestrated by Chad Stanley, has gained national recognition for its impressive pyrotechnics. Stanley, who has been perfecting this show for over a decade, emphasizes the impact of each moment.

The "Kaboom Town" show lasts for 24 minutes, a duration Stanley describes as significant for the collective experience of the audience. The meticulous planning and execution ensure that every second is packed with dazzling displays, making it a memorable event for all attendees.

EDITOR’S NOTE: I included this story for the video on the site below to see some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into this major fireworks show:
