Mother Allegedly Incites Riot Over Canceled Birthday Party, Faces Charges

Stephanie Pedroso faces charges for inciting a riot involving 500 people at Brandon Astro Skate after her daughter’s birthday party was canceled. Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister stated that Pedroso used social media to urge followers to "terrorize" the rink on May 18, promising money for destruction.

By 9:20 p.m., around 500 individuals had gathered, leading to fights and significant damage, including a teen being thrown through a barber shop window and a looted 7-Eleven. The chaos required over 40 deputies to restore order, resulting in the arrests of 23 children and three adults.

Pedroso, who stayed home during the riot, faces felony charges for inciting a riot and unlawful use of a communication device. Sheriff Chronister emphasized her intent to incite terror.

Hillsborough County State Attorney Suzy Lopez supports the charges, focusing on prosecuting rioters rather than addressing free speech concerns.

Rays Made Stunning $300 Million Offer to Aaron Judge During Free Agency

In an unexpected move, the Tampa Bay Rays offered star outfielder Aaron Judge a 10-year, $300 million contract during the 2022-2023 MLB offseason. Judge, who set the American League single-season home run record with 62 homers in 2022, was the most sought-after free agent.

Despite their reputation for frugality, the Rays tried to secure Judge’s talents. However, he re-signed with the New York Yankees for nine years and $360 million. Judge acknowledged the Rays' interest but found it difficult to envision playing for them after his career with the Yankees.

Rays, known for trading rather than retaining high-salary players, made a notable effort but ultimately couldn't sway Judge. Their largest contract remains the 12-year, $182 million deal for Wander Franco. The Rays’ bid highlights their ambition, even if it didn’t result in a new home for Judge.
