New Self-Service Kiosks at Publix Make Registration Renewal a Breeze

Hillsborough County residents can now renew their vehicle registration at Publix stores, making it possible to handle errands and grocery shopping in one trip. The Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office has introduced additional self-service kiosks at Publix locations throughout the county.
Nancy Millan, Hillsborough County Tax Collector, highlighted the commitment to improving customer experience through innovative solutions. “Renewing your registration while shopping or picking up prescriptions is extremely convenient for customers,” she stated.
These kiosks offer the convenience of renewing vehicle registrations and decals outside normal business hours, including weekends. The process is quick, typically taking as little as two minutes.

Balancing Bear Takes a Stroll on Fence in Mary Esther

Last week, a bear in Mary Esther, Florida, captivated residents with an unusual display of balance and agility. Captured on video by local resident Ryan Campbell, the bear was seen walking across a wooden fence as if it were a tightrope.
Campbell first noticed the bear peering over his backyard fence. Initially hoping the bear would find an alternate path, Campbell gave it space, allowing it to proceed undisturbed. The bear then jumped off the fence and swiftly crossed the street into a neighbor's yard.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reminds residents that bear sightings in neighborhoods are not uncommon as these animals search for food.
They advise against approaching or feeding bears and recommend keeping pets secured or on a short leash.
One particularly striking and little-known fact about bears in populated areas is their ability to adapt to urban environments by learning to navigate human infrastructure.
For example, black bears have been observed using pedestrian crosswalks, understanding the timing of traffic lights, and even opening car doors to access food. This remarkable adaptability allows them to coexist with humans, but it also raises concerns about increased human-wildlife interactions and the potential for conflicts.
Efforts to manage bear populations in urban areas often include educating residents about secure garbage disposal and bear-proofing their homes to minimize these encounters.

The Best Tampa Bay Instrumental Bands to Listen to Right Now

Soft Cuff's keyboard player, Christina Sanchez, recently shared her thoughts on the appeal of instrumental music. For Sanchez, it's an immersive experience that allows her to experiment with melodies and textures, especially with the vintage Farfisa organs she plays in the St. Petersburg band.
In previous bands, guitarist Shane Schuch always focused on writing everything else before tackling lyrics. However, in Soft Cuff, he enjoys the freedom of concentrating solely on his guitar playing alongside the band’s founding members: bassist Brian Schanck and drummer Michael Bostinto. Schuch describes their creative process as spontaneous and collaborative, with each member contributing ideas that evolve into their distinctive sound.
Soft Cuff will be showcasing their dynamic instrumental prowess at an EP release show this summer. But they are just one of many excellent instrumental acts in the Tampa Bay area worth checking out right now. Click link below for other acts to check out.
Tickets for Soft Cuff's EP release show at St. Petersburg’s VFW Post 39 on Saturday, Aug. 17, are still available and start at $12.
