Water Conservation Measures Extended for Tampa Bay Due to Low Reservoir Levels

Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties will continue one-day-a-week watering restrictions until December 31, as the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) works to refill the regional reservoir, which is still 7.5 billion gallons below capacity. Despite recent rains, including from Tropical Storm Debby, the area remains in a rainfall deficit.
SWFWMD also approved increasing the daily water withdrawal limit from the Alafia River from 60 million to 75 million gallons per day to help refill the reservoir. This modification is in effect until March 31.
Residents must follow the one-day-a-week schedule based on house numbers, with watering allowed before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m. for properties under 2 acres, and before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. for larger properties. *Low-volume watering methods are permitted any time.
Florida Leads Nation in Dengue Cases Amid Rising Mosquito-Borne Illnesses

Mosquito-borne illnesses are raising alarms in Florida, with the state reporting 342 cases of dengue fever, the highest in the U.S.
Dengue, known for its severe symptoms, is becoming increasingly common, with most U.S. cases historically linked to travelers. However, Florida has seen a surge in locally acquired infections.
Additionally, three cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Florida this year. While Eastern equine encephalitis has not yet been detected in the state, public health officials stress the importance of preventive measures, such as using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed.
As these diseases continue to pose a risk, especially in Florida, residents are urged to remain vigilant and take steps to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

Community Rallies After Norwood Boy’s Ice Cream Stand Faces Shutdown

In Norwood, Massachusetts, 12-year-old Danny Doherty started an ice cream stand to raise money for his brother's special needs hockey team, the Boston Bear Cubs.
After a few successful days, the Norwood Board of Health shut down the stand, citing a violation of the Massachusetts Food Code. Instead of giving up, Danny began giving away ice cream and accepting donations, which led to an outpouring of community support. Local businesses joined in, and the fundraiser quickly gained momentum, raising $20,000—far more than the team needed for a year.
The incident sparked controversy, with town officials receiving backlash, though they defended their actions based on health concerns.
Despite the challenges, Danny's effort has ensured the team's financial stability for years to come, showing the power of community support.

Guy Fieri's Chicken Guy to Open in Wesley Chapel This October
Despite the growing number of chicken eateries in the Tampa Bay area, celebrity chef Guy Fieri isn't slowing down. His popular fast-food chain, Chicken Guy, is set to open a new location in Wesley Chapel, at 25769 Sierra Center Blvd.
Launched in 2018 by Fieri in partnership with Planet Hollywood founder Robert Earl, Chicken Guy offers a menu centered around chicken tenders and the signature "Big Bite" chicken sandwiches, available either grilled or crispy fried. In addition to its main dishes, the menu also features shakes, fries, mac and cheese, and salads.
The chain, which currently operates ten locations nationwide, has had its share of challenges. The Winter Park location recently faced eviction due to unpaid rent, and another in Livonia, Michigan, closed unexpectedly last year.
While the exact opening date for the Wesley Chapel location hasn't been confirmed, local sources suggest it could be as soon as October.
