Tampa Mayor to Honor 13 Ugly Men for 30 Years of Community Service

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor will honor the 13 Ugly Men Foundation on September 6 at City Hall for 30 years of impactful charitable work in the Tampa Bay area. Since 1994, this group has played a significant role in the community, contributing nearly $3 million to local charities. Their efforts range from organizing neighborhood cleanups and food drives to supporting non-profit organizations.

The foundation is best known for its popular fundraising events like the Halloween Party, The White Party, and The Derby Party, which have become staples in Tampa’s social scene, drawing thousands and raising substantial funds for local causes.

The community is invited to join the ceremony at City Hall to celebrate their ongoing legacy of generosity and dedication.

Independent Grocers Battle Slim Margins Amid Rising Costs, Refute Price Gouging Claims

Greg Ferrara, president of the National Grocers Association, rejects claims that independent grocers are engaging in price gouging amid inflation. He explains that these stores operate on slim profit margins, averaging just 1.4% in 2023, and are facing significant challenges from rising labor costs and inflationary pressures. Ferrara highlights that while commodity prices have decreased slightly, they remain elevated, adding strain to the industry.

He notes that independent grocers are striving to keep prices low and support consumers through aggressive sales. Ferrara also expressed concern over public backlash against grocery store employees, spurred by accusations from some politicians.

Family Move Turns Tragic as Mother Accidentally Runs Over Daughter

A tragic accident occurred Friday evening when a mother accidentally ran over her daughter with a U-Haul truck. The incident happened around 8 p.m. as the family was moving into their new home.

The 25-year-old daughter had been standing behind the truck to help guide her mother, who was inside the vehicle. She had asked her mother to move the truck forward so she could pull out the loading ramp. Unfortunately, the mother mistakenly put the truck into reverse instead of drive. In a moment of confusion, she accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, leading to the heartbreaking accident.

The daughter was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead. Authorities have stated that no criminal charges will be filed in this case.

Zephyrhills Bulldogs Secure Dominant 29-0 Victory Over Wesley Chapel

Playing on the road, Zephyrhills showcased their defensive prowess by shutting out their opponents, a performance that aligned with expectations given their higher ranking in MaxPreps' Florida football standings. Zephyrhills, ranked 181st, entered the game as clear favorites against the 372nd-ranked Wildcats.

This victory marks a crucial bounce-back for Zephyrhills, evening their season record at 1-1. Wesley Chapel, on the other hand, suffered a setback, bringing their record to the same 1-1.

Looking ahead, Zephyrhills will clash with Wiregrass Ranch in a Friday night game at 7:30 p.m. The two teams have been evenly matched over the past several years, each winning four games since their rivalry began in August 2015.

Meanwhile, Wesley Chapel will have a bye week to regroup before they face Pasco on September 13th at 7:30 p.m.
