IntelliRoad and Passenger Drones Steal the Show at Tampa Tech Event

The Florida Automated Vehicles Summit is underway in downtown Tampa, showcasing autonomous vehicles, passenger drones, and hovercrafts. One highlight is IntelliRoad, a system from Kyra Solutions that uses smartphone location data to alert drivers to dangers like wrong-way vehicles or stopped cars. The technology provides audio alerts through Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze but requires government agencies to implement it. Currently, it’s used on a 20-mile section of Florida’s Turnpike.
The summit, running through Friday at the Marriott Water Street, also features SafeFlyr’s passenger drone, which underwent testing with 100 pounds of weight.
One astonishing fact about autonomous vehicles (AVs) that is not commonly known is that they could potentially communicate with each other through a process known as Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication. This technology enables cars to broadcast and receive information about their speed, direction, and position to nearby cars. This capability allows AVs to form a networked group on the road, sharing real-time data and making coordinated decisions to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance safety.
This technology extends further into Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication, where cars communicate with traffic signals, road signs, and other infrastructure elements. The integration of V2V and V2I could drastically transform how traffic is managed. This level of connectivity and coordination is a significant step beyond the individual smart features currently highlighted in most discussions about autonomous cars.
Italian-Style Drive-Thru Coffee Coming Soon: Ellianos Expands to Tampa Bay

Ellianos Coffee, a well-known drive-thru specialty coffee chain, is expanding into Tampa Bay with plans for four new stores. In a recent statement, the company confirmed its plans for the Tampa Bay region but did not reveal specific store locations or opening dates.
Founded in 2002 by Scott and Pam Stewart, Ellianos Coffee was inspired by the drive-thru coffee culture they encountered in the Pacific Northwest. The chain prides itself on offering premium Italian-style coffee drinks, with creative names like Venetian Vanilla, Milan Mint Mocha, and Tuscany Toffee.

Bucs Punter Camarda Faces New Challenges with NFL Kickoff Rules

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and punter Jake Camarda are adjusting to the NFL’s new kickoff rules, which aim to reduce high-speed collisions. Under these changes, only the kicker and two returners can move before the ball touches the ground, leaving Camarda feeling isolated at the 35-yard line. The new setup has altered the rhythm of kickoffs, with ten players on the opposing team’s 40-yard line, cutting down the space for high-speed collisions.
During preseason, kickoff returns increased significantly, but the long-term effects remain uncertain as teams are still figuring out the strategy.
