Oropouche Fever Detected in Pasco County, Health Experts Warn

Experts, including Adriane Rogers of Pasco County Mosquito Control District, are urging residents to take extra precautions. With diseases like Malaria, West Nile, and now Oropouche fever emerging from Cuba, the threat is real.
Oropouche fever, similar to Dengue fever, has already seen one case in Pasco County and 30 across the state. Symptoms include fever, chills, and nausea.
In response, Pasco County has ramped up its mitigation efforts, conducting both ground and aerial treatments to control the mosquito population after Hurricane Debby left large amounts of standing water.
To protect yourself, experts recommend wearing long sleeves, using insect repellant with DEET, draining standing water, and being vigilant during peak mosquito activity times, especially around dawn and dusk.
One astonishing fact about mosquito-borne illnesses that many people might not know is that only female mosquitoes transmit diseases such as malaria, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and West Nile virus. Female mosquitoes require blood to help their eggs develop, which is why they bite humans and other animals, potentially transmitting diseases in the process. In contrast, male mosquitoes do not bite and feed only on nectar. This distinction is crucial in understanding the behavior of mosquitoes and managing disease prevention strategies.
Wesley Chapel’s New Storage Facility to Feature Retail Spaces in Unique
Multi-Use Project

A new type of storage facility is set to break ground in Wesley Chapel, blending storage units with retail and office space. The Acorn Self Storage at Wyndfields will be located on the south side of S.R. 54, offering 110,000 square feet of storage alongside nearly 13,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor.
Pasco County Commissioner Seth Weightman, a supporter of modern storage solutions, said, “It’s something we’ve definitely been pushing for.”
The four-story complex will feature storage units on the upper floors and retail below, a first for the area.
This project follows a county-imposed moratorium on storage facilities, requiring developers to integrate more commercial elements to move forward.

Howl-O-Scream’s 25th Anniversary Brings Bone-Chilling New Experiences

This fall, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay marks the 25th anniversary of its renowned Howl-O-Scream event, featuring over 10 spine-chilling new experiences, including haunted houses, terrifying scare zones, and new live shows. Running select nights from September 6 to November 2, the event promises to elevate fear to new heights.
Five haunted houses headline the anniversary, with highlights like "Shadows of Wonderland," a twisted version of the classic tale, and "Terror Through Time," a house celebrating 25 years of Howl-O-Scream nightmares. Guests can also navigate five eerie scare zones, including "Sawgrass Slaughter" and "Tree Lot Massacre."
In addition to the haunts, attendees can enjoy terrifying entertainment, including the stunt-filled "Cirque X-Scream" and interactive "Scare-E-Oke."
With graphic and mature themes, parental discretion is advised.

Tragic Surgery Error: Florida Man Dies After Wrong Organ Removed

A tragic error during surgery at Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital in Florida has left a 70-year-old man dead after a surgeon allegedly removed the wrong organ. William Bryan, visiting the area with his wife, Beverly, was admitted for left-side flank pain, and doctors scheduled a splenectomy. However, according to the family’s lawyer, the surgeon, Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky, mistakenly removed Bryan’s liver instead of his spleen.
The removal caused catastrophic blood loss, leading to Bryan’s death. The surgeon reportedly misidentified the liver as a diseased spleen, claiming it was abnormally enlarged and had shifted to the opposite side of the body. It wasn't until after the operation that the mistake was uncovered, with Bryan's spleen still intact, showing only a small cyst.
Beverly Bryan is pursuing legal action, citing previous surgical errors by Dr. Shaknovsky.
