New Tampa’s Cross Creek Park Breaks Ground on $9M Transformation

Hillsborough County officials, including Commissioner Ken Hagan, celebrated the groundbreaking last week. The $9 million project will transform the park next to Pride Elementary into a modern recreational hub.
The centerpiece is a 16,000-square-foot gymnasium with indoor basketball courts, fitness rooms, and multi-purpose spaces. The project also includes an updated ADA-compliant playground, covered pavilion, and picnic shelters.
The center will offer after-school and senior programs in collaboration with Pride Elementary, and is expected to open by next year.
Community centers often serve as a vital hub for social welfare programs, not only providing social, educational, and recreational activities but also substantially boosting the local economy by employing residents, purchasing local goods, and enhancing community development.
Also, by offering spaces for local artisans and vendors to showcase their work, community centers can foster entrepreneurship and cultural exchange, contributing to a more dynamic and interconnected community.
Craft Your Masterpiece: 8-Week Figure Drawing Class at Tampa Museum

The Tampa Museum of Art presents "Figure Drawing: Striving for a Masterpiece" with Rolando, an 8-week workshop for adults (18+) at beginner to intermediate levels.
Held Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., from September 12 to October 31, this course focuses on creating single and multifigure compositions while studying the elements that define a masterpiece.
Drawing supplies and draft paper are included, though some sessions may require additional materials or model fees.
Classes are held at the new Vinik Family Education Center.

Ditch the Trade-In: How to Get Cash for Your Old Gadgets"

With Apple's latest iPhone release, many are upgrading and wondering what to do with old devices.
Brett Giselbach, regional manager for PayMore, says selling can be more rewarding. A 3-year-old iPhone 12 can bring $150 to $200 if in good condition.
Bridget Carey of CNET adds that even older gadgets hold value. Popular sites like Decluttr, ItsWorthMore, and Swappa make online selling easy.

Rays Prospect Chandler Simpson Joins 100 Stolen Bases Club

Chandler Simpson, the Rays' No. 5 prospect, became the first player since 2012 to steal 100 bases in a season. He reached the milestone during Double-A Montgomery's 10-7 win over Chattanooga, swiping second base in the first inning after hitting a single. Simpson added another steal later in the game, ending with three hits and three runs.
The 23-year-old center fielder attributes his success to patience and smart base running. He has 30 multi-steal games this year, including eight with at least three steals.
