Metro Communities to Offer On-Site Health Care in Innovative BayCare Partnership

Metro Development Group, known for its unique community amenities, is expanding into health care. Through a partnership with BayCare Health Systems, residents of Epperson and Mirada will gain access to telehealth services, a 24/7 medical concierge, and an on-site health clinic.

BayCare purchased a 15-acre lot in Epperson for $12 million to build the facility, which will include a free-standing emergency department and wellness-focused amenities. The clinic will provide primary and acute care, while the telehealth app, BayCareAnywhere, will offer virtual consultations and health tracking tools.

Metro's principal, Kartick Goyani, believes this approach will transform community living by integrating health care as a core feature. The partnership aims to meet resident demands for convenient, on-site medical services, including pediatric care and wellness programs.

Cuban Scientist Bridges Cultures and Ecosystems in Marine Conservation

Noche Latina at Clearwater Marine

Dr. Anmari Álvarez-Alemán, Director of Caribbean Research at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, has spent over 15 years protecting marine mammals like manatees and dolphins. Originally from Cuba, she has built connections between ecological and scientific communities in the U.S. and the Caribbean. Her career began with research on endangered manatees in Cuba, leading to her Ph.D. in interdisciplinary ecology at the University of Florida.

On September 21, Álvarez-Alemán will speak at Clearwater Marine Aquarium's "Noche Latina" event, part of Hispanic Heritage Month. The event celebrates Hispanic culture with Latin food, music, and educational activities, while focusing on marine conservation.

Álvarez-Alemán highlights the importance of the Hispanic community’s involvement in environmental education and conservation. She recently helped launch the Wider Caribbean Manatee Alliance, aiming to unite conservation efforts across 20 countries to protect this endangered species.

One astonishing and lesser-known fact about the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) is that it was initially a wastewater treatment plant. Before being transformed into a rescue and rehabilitation facility for marine life, the building housed a sewage treatment facility in the 1950s. When it was repurposed in 1972, the facility began its journey toward becoming a haven for injured marine animals, especially famous for the care of Winter the dolphin.

This unusual origin story highlights how the aquarium evolved from an unlikely starting point to one of the most renowned marine rescue centers in the world.

Great Wolf Lodge: Florida’s Largest Indoor Waterpark Opens This Fall

Great Wolf Lodge, known for its massive indoor waterparks, is opening its first Florida location in Naples on September 18, 2023. Situated at 3900 City Gate Blvd N, the new resort is the 21st in North America and promises family fun with over 500 suites and a 100,000-square-foot indoor water park, all spread across 20 acres near the Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Collier County.

With a year-round temperature of 84°F inside the park, guests can enjoy rides like the lazy river, wave pool, and high-thrill water slides. The resort also features a 62,000-square-foot family entertainment center, dining options, and family-friendly suites.

Wesley Chapel Wildcats Seek Redemption Against Pasco Pirates

The Wesley Chapel Wildcats are set to face the Pasco Pirates this Friday at 7:30 p.m., both teams looking to rebound from tough losses. Wesley Chapel, coming off a 29-0 defeat to Zephyrhills, is hoping to find their offensive rhythm. After a shutout performance last week, the Wildcats know they’ll need a stronger showing to claim victory.

Pasco, meanwhile, has struggled to gain traction this season. Their 51-0 loss to Springstead marked their fourth consecutive defeat. Despite the setback, the Pirates face a steep challenge, as they sit significantly lower in Florida’s MaxPreps rankings compared to Springstead (383rd vs. 146th).

Pasco’s last win against Wesley Chapel in 2023, a dominant 53-0, may give them confidence, but they'll be up against a motivated Wildcats team looking for revenge on their home field.

With Wesley Chapel at 1-1 and Pasco at 0-3, both squads will be eager to turn things around in this key local showdown.
