Clearwater Man Arrested After Threatening Tampa School Over Child’s Suspension

A 35-year-old Clearwater man, Estaban Del Valle, was arrested after threatening to "shoot up" Gorrie Elementary School in Tampa, according to police. Del Valle, angry about his child's suspension, sent a threatening text message targeting teachers at the school around 7:45 a.m.

The recipient, who shares a child with Del Valle, immediately informed the school administration, which contacted the Tampa Police Department. Detectives confirmed the message came from Del Valle's phone.

Police arrested him at his Clearwater home with help from Clearwater Police. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw emphasized that such threats won’t be tolerated.

Pasco County Moves to Limit Car Wash Growth on Prime Land

Pasco County is considering changes to its land development code, which could significantly restrict the construction of new car washes.

County commissioners are set to vote on the proposal, which aims to preserve prime real estate for job-generating uses and limit car washes in busy corridors. If approved, car washes would face stricter regulations, including conditional use permits requiring applicants to meet public need standards, noise limits, and enhanced setbacks.

The new ordinance would not prohibit car washes entirely, but it would make approval more difficult in several areas previously open to them. Commissioners have also expressed concerns about the visual impact of car washes, with some likening the designs to mini-golf courses.

A Soldier’s Journey: New Sculpture Honors WWI Heroes in D.C.

A new bronze sculpture, “A Soldier’s Journey,” has been unveiled at the World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C. The 60-foot-long piece, created by artist Sabin Howard, took nearly a decade to complete. Howard used veterans as models to create the sculpture.

Howard hopes the memorial brings meaning to all visitors, reminding them that under the flag, soldiers were united, not by politics, but by service. Fountain noted the sculpture’s relevance beyond World War I, speaking timelessly to veterans of all generations.

USF Opens Upper Deck as Student Ticket Claims Shatter Records

A surge in student demand for tickets to the University of South Florida's football game against No. 10 Miami has led to the opening of the upper deck at Raymond James Stadium. Over 13,000 student tickets were claimed within 24 hours, setting a new record, and the total rose to 14,535 by Sunday morning.

This shatters USF’s previous record of 12,549 student tickets for the 2021 game against No. 13 Florida. Initially, USF planned to open only the 45,000-seat lower bowl, which accommodates 8,700 students, but high demand prompted expansion to a 55,000-seat capacity.

USF Vice President for Athletics, Michael Kelly: "It’s a great time to run with the Bulls."

LUKE BRYAN CONCERT - Tampa, Sat. 091424

  • Great concert, lot of energy from all performers

  • Drummer Kent Slucher was particularly fun to watch as he was enjoying himself immensely

  • Despite the long wait for the headliner band to perform after multiple warm up acts, there was no doubt why this band sells out.
