Help Name Tampa’s New Paver as Road Improvements Accelerate

The City of Tampa has unveiled a new paving machine that doubles its in-house paving capacity. This new machine is more fuel-efficient, quieter, and easier to operate, allowing the city to pave streets up to 25 feet wide in one pass.

With this investment, Tampa aims to accelerate road improvements across the city.

The city also launched a naming contest for the new paving machine, inviting residents to submit their ideas at Tampa’s official website.

African American Club of Pasco Supports College-Bound Students

On August 17, the African American Club (AAC) of Pasco County awarded college scholarships to nine local students starting college this fall, continuing the AAC’s mission of community uplift since its founding in 1990.

Ezinaye Ibiam, a Wesley Chapel High School graduate, received the Lawrence Christopher City Memorial Scholarship. Despite battling sickle cell anemia, she excelled academically and volunteered with the American Cancer Society. She plans to study business and marketing at UCF.

Other recipients include Maxwell Moore, a Land O' Lakes High graduate heading to USF for computer science, and Malia Shuler of New Port Richey, who received the Wallace Jordan Scholarship and will attend Warner University.

The Contemporary Art Music Project (CAMP) is gearing up for an exciting 2024-2025 season, featuring unique collaborations between living composers, musicians, and street dancers. Led by Eunmi Ko, CAMP aims to explore unconventional artistic pairings, blending music with visual arts, dance, and global musical traditions.

The season kicks off with "Water Dust," a multidisciplinary work by composer Patrick Chan, and "December 1952" by the influential experimental composer Earle Brown. The performance will be held at the USF Contemporary Art Museum and features contributions from USF’s School of Music students, as well as the street dance group DisFunktionals.

Ohio Girl, 8, Embarks on 25-Minute Drive to Target in Family Vehicle

In an unexpected incident, an 8-year-old girl from Bedford, Ohio, took her family’s car and drove herself to a local Target store on Sunday morning. According to authorities, the child and a 2020 Nissan Rogue were reported missing after she was last seen at her home around 7 a.m.

Neighbors' Ring Doorbell footage showed the girl entering the vehicle and driving off. Cameras later captured her on Pettibone Road, and Bainbridge police found the vehicle parked at a nearby Target.

The girl was safely located inside the store and retrieved by her family. She informed police that she had hit a mailbox during the drive. Despite her young age, she managed to navigate the 25-minute, 11-mile journey without major incidents.
