Man Arrested for Leaving Dog Tied on I-75 During Hurricane Milton

A Tampa man, Giovanny Aldama Garcia, has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after leaving his dog, "Trooper," tied to a pole on Interstate 75 during Hurricane Milton. The dog was rescued by a trooper in rising water as the storm approached.

Aldama Garcia admitted to abandoning the dog while evacuating to Georgia. State Attorney Suzy Lopez emphasized that animal cruelty during emergencies faces harsher penalties, saying, “They will face the music.”

Trooper, now in the care of the Leon County Humane Society, is recovering and will not be returned to his former owner. He will stay in foster care until ready for adoption.

One astonishing fact about animals left behind before or during major storms is their remarkable ability to sense impending danger long before humans do. Research suggests that animals such as birds, dogs, cats, and even livestock can detect changes in atmospheric pressure, vibrations, or infrasound waves generated by storms, which are below the range of human hearing.

For instance, during the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean, very few wild animals were reported as casualties, as many had fled to higher ground before the waves hit. Similarly, dogs have been observed displaying signs of anxiety or restlessness prior to the arrival of hurricanes, often seeking shelter or behaving unusually.

Despite these instincts, thousands of pets and livestock are still left behind during major storms, often because their owners are unaware of evacuation plans or don’t have a safe way to transport them. This leads to tragic consequences, as many of these animals are unable to survive the harsh conditions of the storm and the subsequent flooding.

It's a reminder of the importance of preparing emergency plans for pets and animals in advance of severe weather events.

Bucs Earn National Praise for Explosive, Versatile Offense

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are gaining national attention after their 51-24 victory over the Saints, fueled by a nearly 600-yard offensive explosion. Fantasy football players, along with major networks like ESPN, have taken notice, especially after the Bucs posted seven offensive touchdowns.

ESPN analyst and former Bucs quarterback Dan Orlovsky praised new offensive coordinator Liam Coen for keeping the offense unpredictable. He emphasized that Tampa's diverse attack, while still centered around Mike Evans, makes them dangerous.

“Tampa’s dangerous because their scheme is kind of wide open,” Orlovsky noted.

Orlovsky added that the Bucs’ offense doesn't have a set identity due to its versatility, which is working to their advantage.
