Accelerator Milestone: Tampa Bay Wave's Startups Top $1 Billion in Funding

Tampa Bay Wave has reached a major milestone, with its portfolio of over 550 tech startups collectively surpassing $1 billion in investor capital. Founded in 2013 with a $1 million federal grant, the nonprofit accelerator focuses on boosting the region's tech scene by attracting top companies and driving innovation.

CEO Linda Olson attributes the achievement to grassroots entrepreneurship, stating, "Reaching $1 billion in capital reflects our commitment to making Tampa Bay a global destination for technology and innovation." The Wave's programs include the TechDiversity Accelerator, CyberTech|X, HealthTech|X, and the upcoming BlueTech|X, which will concentrate on ocean-based climate resiliency innovations.

The accelerator’s startups have generated thousands of high-paying tech jobs, drawing talent from across the nation and over 30 countries. As the Wave continues its growth, Olson views this milestone as just the beginning of a larger goal to establish Tampa Bay as a prime hub for tech startups.

USF CAM's 'Skyway' Exhibit Transforms Landscapes into Thought-Provoking Art

The University of South Florida's Contemporary Art Museum is showcasing the "Skyway 24: 12 Ways of Looking at a Landscape" exhibit, an immersive exploration redefining traditional landscapes. Inspired by Wallace Stevens's 1917 poem, the exhibition features 12 artists who offer diverse interpretations of landscapes—ranging from realistic to emotional, political, and domestic.

Among the highlights is Susanna Wallin's video "Lizzy," which delves into themes of life and nature through the poignant story of a riverside resident. Her installation "Will's Hill" gives visitors the surreal sensation of walking on water, projecting the Hillsborough River onto the gallery floor. Also featured are Andrés Ramírez’s breathtaking aerial photos, Bradford Robotham's abstracted body landscapes, and Bruce Marsh's detailed nature paintings.

The exhibit invites attendees to reconsider the surrounding environment, transforming even the USF campus itself into a new kind of landscape.

Hagel's Hat Trick Sparks Lightning's 8-5 Win Over Devils

A hat trick celebrated

Brandon Hagel's hat trick led the Tampa Bay Lightning to an 8-5 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night, marking his second career hat trick. Victor Hedman added two goals, helping Tampa Bay snap a two-game losing streak, while Brayden Point, Jake Guentzel, and Janis Moser also scored. Anthony Cirelli tallied four assists, and Jonas Johansson made 28 saves.

The game shifted in the second period when Tampa Bay scored five straight goals, including all three of Hagel's, to take a 6-2 lead. Moser sealed the victory with a 136-foot short-handed goal in the third.

Despite Nikita Kucherov being kept off the score sheet, the Lightning outshot the Devils 37-33.
