Flood Insurance Exclusions Shock Multistory Homeowners After Helene

Multistory homeowners in St. Pete Beach are facing unexpected costs after discovering their flood insurance doesn’t cover ground-level damage. Florida’s Insurance Consumer Advocate reports that standard flood policies often exclude most damage to lower levels, a shock for those affected by Hurricane Helene’s recent surge.
Residents were dismayed to learn their policies cover only minimal cleanup, excluding damaged drywall, doors, and other items in garages. They didn’t anticipate these exclusions.
Florida’s Insurance Consumer Advocate, Tasha Carter, urges homeowners to review policy details carefully. For those without sufficient coverage, FEMA assistance or a Small Business Administration loan may offer temporary relief.

Tampa’s Mediterranean Chickpea Ranks as a Top Vegan Restaurant in the U.S.

The Mediterranean Chickpea in South Tampa has been named one of America’s top vegan restaurants by Yelp, ranking No. 2 nationwide and No. 1 in Florida. Known for its fresh Middle Eastern-inspired dishes, the restaurant serves a colorful array of salads, house-made dips, and veggie-forward fare.
Chef-owner Mouna Alchabab, who began as a caterer in 2010, opened the restaurant in 2018 to meet the demand for her popular hummus and baba ghanoush. Today, the menu features unique creations like Cilantro-Jalapeño Hummus, crispy falafel wraps, and protein-rich fava bean salads, with Mouna’s daughter, Maya, highlighting their “feel-good food.”
The Mediterranean Chickpea’s unique flavors and commitment to quality have earned it national recognition.
