$5,000 Grants Available for Tampa Bay Small Businesses via Bucs Fund

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ owners are allocating $1 million in hurricane relief to support small businesses across Tampa Bay and West Central Florida. The Glazer Family Small Business Fund offers grants of up to $5,000, distributed through eight regional chambers of commerce, including the Tampa Bay Chamber, St. Petersburg Chamber, and others.

Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, co-owner and chair of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation, announced the initiative at a Tampa Bay Chamber luncheon. The fund is part of the Glazer family’s hurricane relief efforts following Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which devastated parts of Florida.

“Our region’s resilience is unmatched, and small businesses are vital to its recovery,” Glazer Kassewitz said. “We’re working closely with local chambers to ensure this support reaches those in need.”

Tampa Bowl Games Expected to Boost Tourism

Tampa is gearing up for a major tourism boost as college football bowl season kicks off. Raymond James Stadium will host two high-profile games, drawing thousands of fans to the area.

The Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 20 features the Florida Gators (7-5) against Tulane, the American Athletic Conference runner-up. The Gators closed their season strong with three consecutive wins, including victories over ranked teams and Florida State.

On Dec. 31, the ReliaQuest Bowl will showcase Michigan against No. 11 Alabama. Michigan, last year’s national champion, narrowly missed the College Football Playoff but ended the season with an upset win over Ohio State. Alabama also came close to playoff contention.

Local leaders anticipate significant economic benefits. “Fans will play golf, visit beaches, and enjoy all of Tampa Bay,” said Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan.

Tickets for both games are on sale now.

Big Week for Wesley Chapel Area High School Sports

Wesley Chapel’s high school sports teams have a packed and exciting week ahead, featuring major rivalries, top rankings, and bragging rights.

On Dec. 11, the Wiregrass Ranch boys soccer team (11-1) faces Sunlake in a matchup with added drama. Former Sunlake coach Sam Koleduk is now a Bulls assistant, while Sunlake is led by soccer legend Danielle Fotopoulos. Wiregrass boasts standout keeper Oscar Jimenez and a strong defense, while Sunlake aims to build on last year’s dominant 23-1-2 season.

Dec. 13 brings the highly anticipated Wesley Chapel-Wiregrass Ranch basketball game. The Bulls, led by Kenny Smith (20.4 ppg) and Donovan Gaines (17 ppg), have won 8 of 9 in the rivalry. The Wildcats counter with Sian Morris (20.4 ppg) and Ethan Hicks (19.8 ppg).

Also on Dec. 13, the FCA All-Star Football Game showcases Pasco County’s top seniors at Fivay High. Tickets are $10.
