Tampa Bay’s Dance Scene Shines in "The Power of Water" Film

Dance Tampa Bay is making waves with its newest short film, "The Power of Water," a celebration of local dance talent and Tampa Bay’s waterways. The film is part of the Dance Rising Tampa Bay series, inspired by a New York City initiative that began during the pandemic to support dancers and keep the art form visible.

Led by Shana Corrada, Dance Tampa Bay became the first city outside NYC to participate in Dance Rising. The series, funded by the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, aims to connect and advocate for Tampa’s dance community.

"The Power of Water" features Tampa City Ballet, vocalist Fred Johnson, and music by Nick Ewing, who describes water as a "great unifier and cleanser." The film will debut at the Gasparilla International Film Festival, bringing dance to a broader audience.

Corrada hopes to break stereotypes and ensure that dance remains visible and accessible in Tampa Bay.

Tampa Residents Outraged Over Code Violation Notices for Storm-Damaged Homes

Tampa Heights residents are frustrated after receiving city code violation notices for homes damaged by Hurricane Milton—even though many are still waiting on insurance claims.

Mary Wynn, one affected homeowner, was shocked to see a notice demanding repairs to her floors, walls, ceilings, and roof by Feb. 25, 2025 or face legal action. “They’ve never been inside my house,” Wynn said, questioning the inspection’s validity.

Heather Morrison, another homeowner, called the notice "a financial disaster." She’s been unable to live in her home while waiting on insurance assistance. “We want to fix it, but we can’t,” she said.

City officials claim homeowners can request extensions, stating they aim to “work with residents.” However, for those still struggling to recover, the notices only add to their stress.

Fred the Dog Finds a Forever Home After 100 Days
in Shelter

See article for the “real” Fred the Dog and his adoptive family

After spending more than 100 days at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, Fred the dog finally found his forever home—much to the delight of shelter staff and local supporters.

Fred arrived at the shelter in September after his previous owners faced medical issues. Known for his goofy personality, love of naps, and car rides, he quickly won hearts. His story gained attention when WTVT reported in late January that he was the shelter’s longest resident and needed a new home.

A family who had been mourning the loss of their dog for 14 months saw Fred’s story and felt an instant connection. They visited the shelter, bonded with him, and knew it was meant to be.

The shelter celebrated his adoption, with many in the Tampa Bay community cheering him on. Fred now has a loving home, proving that patience pays off!

From Largo to Broadway: Local Costume Studio Dresses the Stars

A new costume studio in Largo is making waves in the entertainment industry, creating high-quality costumes for Disney, Legoland, Broadway, and cruise ship productions.

Founded by industry veterans Nancy Hutson and Chris Nobels, Full Stop Costume Studio specializes in durable, detailed costumes designed for rigorous performances. From theme park parades to daredevil shows, their creations must withstand hours of dancing and movement.

The duo, former producers at Feld Entertainment, saw a niche for high-quality stage costumes after the company’s pandemic-related layoffs in 2020. Now operating out of 5,000 square feet in Largo’s Omni Business Park, their team is solving unique costume challenges—like designing a princess gown to fit two different-sized actors.

Industry professionals, including Ringling daredevil Bello Nock, praise the studio for meeting a growing demand while creating jobs. With easy access to airports and beaches, Largo is proving to be the perfect base for this creative powerhouse.

Astonishing Pet Adoption Fact:

Many shelter pets already know basic commands—but their stress in the shelter environment makes them appear untrained! 🐶🐱

Studies show that up to 50% of adopted dogs already understand commands like "sit," "stay," and "come," but their anxiety in a shelter setting can make them seem unresponsive. Once in a stable home, many of these pets quickly reveal their training and affectionate nature, surprising their adopters!

This is one reason why shelters encourage potential adopters to spend time with a pet outside the kennel—it helps reveal their true personality! 🏡❤️
