Tampa Makes History Hosting NCAA Women’s
Final Four (Again)

Tampa is set to make NCAA history by becoming the first city to host the Women’s Final Four four times, with Amalie Arena hosting games on April 4 and 6. UCLA and South Carolina are already confirmed; the final two teams will be decided on March 31.

Beyond the court, fans can enjoy Tourney Town at the Tampa Convention Center, featuring games, giveaways, and team displays. Party on the Plaza at Cotanchobee Park and a Super Saturday Concert at Curtis Hixon Park—headlined by GloRilla—bring music and entertainment downtown.

On April 5, kids can join the Women’s Final Four Bounce along the Riverwalk, and a Legacy Project will refurbish the Riverfront Rec Center court. Officials praise Tampa’s walkability and community spirit, citing strong partnerships and volunteer support.

Free fan experiences, family fun, and elite hoops action make this a championship week to remember in the heart of downtown Tampa.

Pasco’s Former Fire Chief Sues County Over Whistleblower Retaliation

Former Pasco County Fire Chief Anthony Perez has filed a whistleblower lawsuit, alleging he was forced to resign after uncovering a data breach and reporting misconduct and policy violations within the department. Perez, who assumed leadership in August 2023, says he was tasked with reforming a “toxic culture,” but faced resistance when he attempted to terminate key personnel.

Perez claims he was harassed, denied access to investigative findings against him, and pressured to resign under duress. He is seeking compensatory damages, attorneys’ fees, and a jury trial.

Locked Out: Residents Demand Fair Access Between Kinnan and Mansfield

(not accurate but gets point across)

[A letter from a reader]

“I live in New Tampa, just off Kinnan Street, in the K-Bar Ranch subdivision.
Kinnan Street SHOULD connect with Mansfield Boulevard, but Pasco County has a gate up which blocks the connection, except for emergency vehicles.

I have contacted various governmental leaders asking why, and received answers which frankly, are baloney. Most notably from Pasco County.

Now it appears a subdivision (Anand Nilay)  is to be built which starts in Hillsborough County off Kinnan Street and will connect with a subdivision in Pasco, and ONLY the residents of those subdivisions will be able to go from Kinnan Street to Mansfield Boulevard bypassing the Pasco County gate.

This is patently unfair to all the residents of both counties. The Kinnan - Mansfield connector will allow easy access to both Cross Creek Boulevard and Routes 54/56.
Residents all along these streets NEED this open.

Anything you can do to help make this happen is greatly appreciated.”

Editor’s Note: If anyone has a connection to a Pasco Cnty official who could be of help - please pass this along. Anyone who’d like to work with this reader on this issue, reply to this newsletter via your email with your contact info and I’ll forward it.
