Healthy Fast-Food Pioneer EVOS Closes
Tampa Bay Stores

After more than 30 years in the Tampa Bay area, EVOS, a health-conscious fast-food chain, has closed all its locations, including stores in St. Petersburg, South Tampa, and Carrollwood.

Known for its air-fried meals, wraps, nutrition bowls, and hand-tossed salads, EVOS carved out a niche for consumers seeking fast food with a healthy twist.

Co-Founder Michael Jeffers expressed gratitude, saying, “We have no regrets,” and emphasized steps taken to help their staff transition.

Though the reason for the abrupt closure was not disclosed, the company issued a heartfelt farewell, thanking customers and staff for their loyalty.

EVOS’ departure marks the end of a local favorite, but its influence on healthier fast food remains part of its legacy.

New Online Tool Offers Lifeline to Tampa
Crime Victims

In recognition of National Crime Victim Week, the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office has launched a new online tool to support victims of crime. The platform consolidates courtroom updates, legal guidance, and community resources, offering vital help for survivors navigating the aftermath of tragedy.

Sparkle Negron, whose 22-year-old son was killed in 2022, has faced a long and isolating legal battle, attending nearly 30 court sessions alone. The new tool, she says, would have eased her burden.

State Attorney Susan Lopez emphasized the need for easy access to financial, emotional, and legal support, including assistance for funeral expenses and victim compensation. “People never expect to need this until they do,” said Lopez.

The resource aims to provide clarity and support in the chaotic and painful aftermath of violent crime.

Caballero’s First Slam Lifts Rays Over Angels in Homer-Filled Night

What an experience!

José Caballero delivered a milestone moment Wednesday night, launching his first career grand slam to propel the Tampa Bay Rays to a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels, snapping a five-game skid.

Caballero’s first-inning blast gave Tampa Bay a 4-0 lead, and despite the Angels hitting five solo home runs, the Rays held on. Yandy Díaz added a solo homer in the seventh, giving the Rays a two-run buffer before Kyren Paris hit his second homer of the game in the eighth.

The game featured six total home runs, all landing in right field at George Steinbrenner Field, the Rays’ temporary home during Tropicana Field repairs.

Ryan Pepiot earned the win, and Pete Fairbanks closed it out for his second save.

Caballero’s slam came in his 688th career at-bat, a highlight in his third major league season.

Here’s an astonishing and lesser-known fact about baseball grand slams:

Only one player in MLB history has ever hit two grand slams in a single inning — and he did it off the same pitcher.
That player was Fernando Tatís Sr., and it happened on April 23, 1999, while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He hit both grand slams in the third inning, off Chan Ho Park.

The Cardinals scored 11 runs in that inning alone, and Tatís ended the game with 8 RBIs in just one inning — another MLB record.

What makes this even more incredible is that no other MLB player has hit two grand slams in a single game, let alone in one inning!
